Put Bowden, Brown, Newman and Raines in the middle - where it counts.

Deledio has to understand that he's (hopefully) going to be better than pretty much anyone since Knights and therefore listen to the coaches and not model himself too much on his teammates. Let the rest of the young brigade learn from him in time. Think you're all forgetting (to a point) that the kids can learn a great deal from the opposition they play on week in week out also.

Blumfield played in a premiership.

No offence to our captain, but IMO he isn't in the same league as Bowden or Brown, when it comes to pure footbal smarts.

Johnsons best position is tagging. He does well because he's strong in contested play and is disciplined to stay with his player. He mostly tagged at Adelaide during their premiership years. He won a B&F last year in that position. Without a doubt this is his best position.

He struggles when he has to create and set up play. He doesn't have the creativity, awareness, evasiveness, quickness of mind and skill like the better midfielders do. As a result he tends to put his teamates under pressure with stray delivery and/or delivery to a teamate under pressure. He struggles to bring others into the game effectively and that's why I'm of the opinion that he's not the best player kids can develop alongside.

Don't get me wrong, there is a spot for our captain, but he's not a "playmaker" that can bset help the kids with their development.

Kids need senior players around them that are confident and smart, that are able to bring them into the play. Senior players that have the awareness of where their young teamates are on the park and be able to feed them the ball when in space allowing them to run and create. In turn confidence and maturity grows and they gel quicker within a cohesive unit.

On the other hand however, the kids development will be severly held back if they keep receiving crap delivery when under the pump allowing full grown men to drive them into the turf when tackled.

What skilled, Brownlow winning, premiership midfielder in the 22-26 yr old age bracket is leaving his contract negotiations until the end of the season?

Make room for him I don't care how.

Dyer - regarding your Chris Johnson example - he's had voss, acker, black, lappin, power, hart, mcrae etc to compete with. Give us those players then Bowden wouldn't move from half Back. Give us Johnson during the past 10 years then he would have been our no.1 on-baller. You make do with what you got.

With Johnson, Harry, like Bowden, Brown and Newman, he HAS played midfield. Voss, Lappin and Black have missed huge chunks of footy over the past few years and Johnson has played many games in the midfield. He got a stretch of ten or more one season and was just very average at the caper.

If anything, the strength of the Brisbane midfield, rather than robbing him of a well deserved opprtunity to play midfield, has flattered his form at halfback. If anything.

IMO if Kane Johnson went head to head with C.Johnson in the midfield, the latter would not remember what a football looked like by game's end. Different class of animal.

Cousins, L.Power, B.Harvey are the best small forwards in the comp. But there's no way they would play there. They are too talented. They play midfield.

Why does a dog lick his balls? Why does a player play midfield instead of flanks? Because he can.

I don't think you're out of order calling for this quartet to be run through the midfield. As I've posted before, I believe we have about the worst midfield in the AFL. We gotta try something.

Agree Jack.

FYI Harry, TW used 9 different midfield combinations at centre bounces utilising 8 players against the Scum at Mildura, they were;

Foley
Polo
Tuck
Tambling
Howat
Deledio
Tivendale
Krakouer

TW is on track as you explained in your conclusion by utilising 8 players in the middle. As you know and many of us here, hard bodied and skillful midfield player are the key to success, only about half of what was used yesterday could still be around come season 2010, TW's 6th season.
