Hi all,
As Jay's president I'd like to present this PRE interview. :)
As we all know Jay was injured in rd2 after he received these questions. Fortunately he has responded after the injury and his answers are still relevent.
I'm sorry if your question wasn't asked. Please bear in mind Sarge was offered a selection of questions that were deemed appropriate and was only asked to answer those he felt he could.
Enjoy. :)

Q & A with the Sarge

Hi Jay,
Firstly, well done on your new contract and promotion to the junior leadership group.

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer these questions, the RFC supporters at the Punt Road End website, really appreciate it.

The question will be followed by the poster's alias:

When you were growing up who was your role model?
Tubytiger

Roger Merrett and Bruce Lee

Tell us about your early beginnings in footy and how you came to be drafted?
Phantom

Grew up playing football in the country, then moved and played with Woodville West Torrens in the SANFL when I was 15. Played state footy ( and for Australia against Ireland )at under 16’s & 18’s. Then got Drafted to Richmond at 17 Years Old.

In your debut year you kicked six goals against Brisbane, what positives influenced that performance?

Dirty Dog Tiger

I guess I was in the right place at the right time. This performance against Brisbane proved to me that I did have the ability to perform at this level.

What areas have you improved this year and where do you see you still have to improve to consolidate your place in the team?
Gustiger12

This season I have really improved my fitness, but I still feel there is more room for improvement. I would also like to get a better understanding of playing in defence.

What do you do to relax, any specific hobby/ pastime?

Anduril

I enjoy playing basketball with friends, watching movies and listening to all types of music.

Where do you think you play your best football and where do you think you should be playing? ie, FF, CHF or CHB.
Skiptomystu

Where I play my best football really depends on the opposition team. When I was growing up playing football I played a lot of games in the forward line, and now since playing more senior football I have moved to become more of a backline player.

Do you read the Punt Road End website and, if so, have you been influenced at all by any of the comments that are posted there (both positive and negative)?

Crystal

I don’t actually read the website, but my father does and keeps me updated with its content relating to me. I also heard what was written about Dean Polo last year which was not to popular down at the Club.

How do you motivate yourself just before a game?
ChiangMaiTiger

Generally I try to relax before a game, listening to music through my IPod.

How did you feel being promoted to the junior leadership group and what does that mean to you?
ToO

It was a massive honor to be promoted to the junior leadership group, it was a real complement from the players and coaching staff to be promoted to this position, and that they see my potential in this way.

Which player/team do you most look forward to play against and why?
TigerArmySoldier1

I don’t really look forward to playing against any teams, basically because they are all tough sides, there is no such thing as an easy beat side in this competition.

What are your goals in footy this season, long term and after football?
Scoop

My goals for this season basically include getting back from injury into the senior side, and being able to hold my position there for the rest of the season. Long term I’m looking at being a 10+ year player for the club. As for my future after football I am still undecided as to what I would like to do.

As your player president & on behalf of all the supporters at the Punt Road End Site, I'd like to pass on a big thankyou for taking the time to do this.

We wish you all the best for your future career with the RFC.

Go Tiges!!

* Big thanks obviously to Jay Schulz, Greg Miller & our very own Tuby Tiger who helped me make this happen.

Cheers
ToO

Great work ToO, this certainly allows us to get a more detailed understanding of Jay.

Mr Schulz Senior, your son is an important part of the RFC's future. :thumbsup

Great stuff ToO!! You just keep on delivering the goods baby! :clap :clap

And thanks Jay for taking the time to answer our questions. :clap :clap Wishing you a very speedy recovery and a long and happy future with the RFC. :-* :hearton

Well done ToO. Solid work.

Happy with Jay giving PRE a light dig over the Dean Polo stuff, just a slight jab to the body telling us the we do indeed have a voice within the club on some stuff.

Nice work.

Well done ToO, Tuby and all those who submitted questions - was a good interview all round.

Let's hope Sarge gets back on the track ASAP and quickly regains the good form and improvement he was showing earlier this year. :)

Graet work guys nice interview, kudos to Sarge for taking the time to answer the questionaire.
Not that he would have answered the question, but if the Chad Morrison incident had of been around when the questions were submitted, would of been interesting to hear his views on how the media circus treated him like public enemy#1 & morrrison has been given barely any criticism from the community & media.

Thanks heaps for answering the questions for us Jay.  :) I hope you're Dad has let you know I'm a big fan and really look forward to all of the younger generation, including you,  step up and lead us into an exciting future.  I reckon we can look forward to good times ahead.

That really saddens me and I feel for Dean being used as a pawn the way he was.  It wasn't really ever about Dean.  A couple of questions about him were blown out of all proportion in a slinging match between a couple of PREnders and Chuck and gargs.  The fact there were demands made and threats of legal action to close the site over it was a massive over-reaction and would be laughable if it wasn't so serious.

A lot of players have family who read PRE.  It can't always be easy seeing youre loved ones being bagged and as much as it hurts they cop it on the chin, respecting people's rights to express their views.  I know I'd hate it if it was my son being bagged and am glad I'm not in that situation.

I was so concerned about the whole incident I rang the club and spoke to Flea about it seeing he was in charge of player welfare.

I hope those discussing it at the club were aware of the facts and how the whole fiasco erupted and know that it was only a  couple of people questioning Dean but even then were more so stirring a couple of people who got up them for their opinions. By far the majority here were behind him.   I'm sure they still are in fact and that's shown by the vote to sponsor Dean this year.

Eat 'Em alive Jay and Deano, exciting times ahead.

I often think the same myself. Would not be easy for the families reading the stuff especially as they know the players are trying ot do the best they can. It is so easy to criticise not so ewasy to go out there and actually play AFL footy.

Thanks all, glad you're enjoying the interview. :)

Thanks also to all those who contributed their questions.

It's terrific for Jay to do this for us and hopefully there will be more player Q&A's to come. 8)
