Q. Has Shane Edwards gone backwards this year? Why?

I thought overall Edwards was great. Still makes a few blues as has been documented but he also has immense evasive skills and is very good at making things out of nothing. Just needs to know when to take players on and when not to a bit more, but he's a very exciting prospect. Still a bit inconsistent, had 15 or 16 possies at half time and much quieter second half. Will be fine.

Great little player and tough as nails, interesting to see what his next season holds but needs to straighten up.

Not saying we have a fab four or that he looks anything like Luke Power but I can see Eddie being a very good 2nd rotation midfielder like a Power has been ......thinks outside the square this kid

Some of you guys are far too harsh on guys like Edwards, you expect these kids to walk into the side and star like Cotchin
They are going to make mistakes, they learn from them, it's also the moments of brilliance that you need to look for as that's what they trying to bring out on a more consitent basis

At the end of the day, he's 19 years old and only played 30 games of AFL football. If he's still making the shocking mistakes in 2 years then he'll be in the firing line, but he's shown awesome signs so far. Should be a great player for us.

Is becoming one of my favourites, love his intensity at the ball. Has easily overtaken Tambling for a midfield position.

On Shane Edwards,

Earlier in the year, after Shane had spoken at a Club80 function, Greg & I spoke about Edwards and how he hadn't learnt in his junior footy the art of picking up easy possessions. In fact, Shane actually decried it.

It's something that many boys miss out depending on the knowledge of their junior coaches. Easy possessions are gained by running past for HRs and the like, as well as picking up the HBGs & LBGs. Players can pick up 7 or 8 extra possies a game by picking up HRs. Gary Ablett does it all the time.

Greg agreed & said that it was something the coaching staff were working through with him.

Anyway, I don't think Edwards has gone backwards. I think his 2008 was pretty well on par with his 2007.
I just reckon if he takes on board a little more of these ways of developing his footy, it will improve.

I think Edwards will be one of the big improvers for us next year!

What a lot of people don't notice is the team orientated stuff he does. When he's forward, what whose blocking to allow other forwards to get loose on a lead, not to mention his tackling!

My priceless moment for the Demons game was seeing Warnock harassing and bumping Reiwoldt and generally trying to pretend he's tough, only to have Shane Edwards invervene with a bump which sat Warnock on his dud butt!

Yeh I think edwards has a future.
Like whitey he has speed to burn and his skills are good. Maybe a little more size would be good but I think he will be a big improver in 2009.

Imo Shane is just like a few others on our list, just needs a bit more experience. He is still only a "baby" in AFL terms, he will develope nicely over the next few years.
