Question - Did tonight show respect /no respect for Gaspar.

So we should coax him back with a new two year contract?
He's the guy that chose to quit.

Not at all...I'm just acknowledging an interesting fact lamby makes.
After all, behind Richo, gaspar was clearly Richmond's best player from 96 - 07

Served the longest you mean..

Relevant to the discussion, was he our second best player behind Richardson at Richmond the past two years that those floggings occurred? Hardly.

I'd say we send a delegation headed by Oldie to the Gaspar residence asking humbly if Darren could return. RFC could authorise a negotiating position of a minimum 3 year contract at 300 k a year. ;D

Better sign him up before the weekend flogging in Adelaide though or his value will rise even more

When forced to by Wallace

Forced? How so?
He wasn't forced to quit according to the straight shooting Gary March in the press yesterday.
He was still a required player.
Gaspar quit because he didn't want to go to Coburg.

Credit to Tivendale for taking his demotion on the chin.

Why send me? Miller is just the man for the job. ;)

Really Oldie, when Terry tells you that Moore and Mcguane who at best, with some experience and a lot of development may eventually become servicaeable third talls are better than or as good as you, and that they will be preferred, he is telling you to go. Remember that Terry also said its not right for a player like Gaspar to finish his career playing down at Coburg. Simple message - you wont play in the ones and we dont want or need you at Coburg. Sounds like Good bye to me!

Timing and method of dismissal diabolical and without being too melodramatic the aftermath may just about be the tipping point for the club. They need to bounce back this week but I just cant see where that will come from. If there is another 100 point hiding getting GAS back would not seem so silly - you just cant be totally uncompetitive even if you have a youth policy.

Could be a chance for Darren to be gracious. Press conference could be "Richmond have been hard hit by injuries, I am still a listed player. Offered my services and happy to help out by playing out the rest of the year - Terry has graciously accepted and welcomed me back"

Supporters would cheer, GAS gets a proper farewell - (and we win 15 straight and the finals in straight sets, GAS retires as Norm Smith Medalist and three time all australian :o)

Why, if your best mate at work gets fired after 11 years service and his job is given to the work experience guy (utilising work choices of course) ..are you going to work twice as hard the next day to give the boss a lesson?

Fired? Quit? Retired? :spin

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this one as Gaspar and March/Wallace have differing views on this as do you and I Lamby. We'll probably never know the true course of events.

At the end of the day though he's gawn.

Hopefully his replacement can do a job.

Last Sunday showed me that something major was amiss and the big issue was that it appears that the players (except a couple) showed little or no respect for themselves or their fellow team mates. I'm not the least bit concerned with how Darren may or may not have taken the loss against the Cats (he wasn't playing!), I'm sure he is still ruminating over the last weeks events at the club that involved him.

I'm somewhat dark on Darren's resignation (as I've already highlighted previously):

I believe that it would have been better for him to play on Sunday and nurture the 'young defenders' in real game time, not as another coach around the RFC. Irrespective of good or poor form, if Darren had stayed on – there wouldn’t have been the flogging we witnessed on Sunday evening!

I don't believe it! Gas didn't play and he STILL gets blamed for a loss................

Andy that is the nature of being a scapegoat. It's not based on any sensible rationale but emotional piffle.

The dialogue of the gasbagger over past weeks is something like this:

Gas no good, Gas must go...(props fist under chin to stop head form drooping)....

OH gee Gas , still no good, Gas must go...(brain hurting trying to digest reality of Gaspar beating his opponents week in week out)

Yippee, Yay, Yippee, yay GAS gone, Gas gone ...(attempts cartwheel but due to lack of motor skill again hurts brain - reverts to propping fist under chin to stop head from drooping)

watches Geelong game........uhhhh...no make sense......no Gas.......we still no good (grapples with emerging realisation that wordlview could benefit from revision.....brain starts hurting again.....fortunately tongue lands on foot to diistract from the pain)

thinking.....

thinking....

thinking....

AH me get it........we no good..........GAS no play....must be GAS fault............boo GAS , GAS go, GAS bad, GAS should not go, GAS no good, GAS no good, boooooo (walks away confused but feigning contentment...hurts knuckles as they pick up splinters walking out)

Ah if life was as simple for the rest of us!!

Bit of a funny situation. He retires but doesn't want to play a farewell game.
Don't know what that says to the club or players.

Who said he was to have a farewell game. I understod Wally didn't want to play him but wanted him to hang around in case all these young Silvagni's and Langfords we have get injured. Cant have a farewell game can you and still hang around , can you??

He was named in the side but then we have a news conference.
He and his wife have 10 day old twins, he wants to be Mr. Mom.
Something happened and he decided to go.
