There were quite a few on here from memory......

Have your views changed based on last night's performance?

It all depends on how bad Essendon, Melbourne, West Coast and Freo are!!

I can't see us making it, and if by some miracle we do, I see a 100 point hammering in the elimination final.

No.

However this season was always more about do we have the right Coach and plan in place than anything else. Making finals was merely a by product of that.

This season was always going to be a extreme one in my eyes. Simply because the above question is asked this year and the answer will result in;

Yes we are on the right rack and Wallace should be our Coach = Making the finals OR
No, we are on a misguided plan and Wallace is not the Coach for us = Bottom 4

I don't think we will finish 9th-12th.

I certainly am not putting my cue in the rack after one game. However faith is certainly rocked.

Not just yet, it was one game in a season, but we clearly need three things (amongst probably plenty of others) to happen for us to get there.

1. We need our coaching staff to sit down and work out a gameplan that suits our team. It is patently obvious that we do not have the players to play a high possession, short game when even basic pressure is applied. They might be able to do it at training, but it falls apart quickly on the field.
2. We need Cotchin, Connors and Rance on the paddock as soon as fit and stepping up immediately, with Vickery not far behind them. Guys like Collins, Thomson and Hislop I cannot comment on as I don't know much about them, but they must also be in the mix. Surely TW realises right now that if he is to have any future at the club, it is with the younger guys, not the older guys.
3. We need our defenders to show that last season wasn't an abberation.

I went for a wander over to BF to see what ridicule was been thrown at us, I was surprised to see many neutrals still thinking we'll make the 8.

Last night's game was one of those that I'd pencilled us to win.

That reduces the number now to 14 pencilled games.

You may need to keep your eraser handy if things don't improve!

Problem is, if we are on the wrong plan it's too late now. You can improve but not prosper by 11th hour tweaking.

The first 6 rounds were always going to be tuff for us, if we won last night i had us at 2 and 4 for the six rounds, maybe 3 and 3 if we beat North. Now its more looking like 1 and 5 as i think melbourne is the only team we may beat in the first 6 rounds. I really had last night penciled in as a must win at all costs game, it appears the team didnt.

15 wins Phants. A touch optimistic, no?

For sure DD. The thing is, we have tried this plan for the last couple of seasons and been found wanting. Terry still believes in it, and this year was going to be the real test of it because our players should have adapted to it by now. I think even after one game this season we can see we cannot execute it. If we were playing a full strength Cats outfit and we got dismantled by them like we did last night, then you might just say it was a lack of talent that meant the gameplan fell apart. But last night we were against a Carlton side with 4 new players and some senior players who were slightly underdone. Does not bode well. The only time I feel this gameplan has really worked for us is on the wide-open fast spaces of Subiaco.

So it leaves us a choice. Do we stick with something that we repeatedly cannot do, or do we try to simplfy things, go to a more natural game for our players, and try to move forward that way. I know people will say that we need to also look at getting the right players to execute it. But that is what TW and co. have surely been doing for the last 4 years and they have to take the responsibility.

I actually think we have enough talent to make the 8 with a game plan that suits us a bit better. You are right, we can only improve things by 11th hour tweaking. But I think what we need right now is a solidly performing unit under a suitable gameplan, and we build on that.

I'm with you, I guess my point is it's a bit late. More to the point one of my reservations about Wallace is his persistance in plans that should be executing a lot bet by now IF he had the right processes in place. People talk about we don't have this type of player and that player is useless etc etc but at the end of the day you make plans based on your cattle if your not able to select your cattle.

So Terry has been given one of two opportunities over 4 years coming into his fifth...

1) Recruit the players and side he wants for his game plan
2) Developed a game plan based on the cattle he has (for those who believe he is still stuck with past recruiting messes)

Either way he is seriously struggling at this point to say he has succeeded at one or the other, let alone both.

I guess what I am saying is, if we can get to this point and still be persisting in a plan that doesn't work my confidence is rapidly diminishing we have the honesty/balls/humilty whatever you care to say....to actually make the required corrections. Not to mention if Wallace has been on the wrong track, that's a lot of stunted development and wasted efforts for the last 4 years.

Wallace is well and truly going to live or die by the sword on this one. I'm not going to get hysterical after one game and say it is all doom and gloom, but it's totally understandable so many on here have been rocked and hurt.

Nothing appears to have changed at this point, which is really dissapointing as so much needs to.
