I am new here so forgive me if this a stupid question but why does PRE sponsor players? They don't earn enough as it is. Someone told me that players earn at least about $100,000 each.

I know that - my question was why?

The money we raise sponsors players via the Player and Coaching Link. This is one of the premium membership packages offered by the club. The money goes to the club, not the players.

The number of players sponsored by PRE depends on the amount raised. This year, we raised enough to sponsor 6 players, which was a fantastic effort, as we also raised money to help pay for an extra rookie player for the club (Angus Graham).

All businesses and the RFC is no exception - need revenue to be able to pay the employees wages - Revenue for the RFC is derived from a number of areas - membership fees, TV monies from the AFL, merchandising, gate takings etc. etc. - to help the RFC with its revenue drive (to cover the costs of running the club) PRE sponsors players - the money from these sponsorships go into general revenue of the RFC and is used to help cover the costs of player contracts and/or resources for player training requirements and/or medico supplies for the game day trainers etc. etc.

The running of the RFC purely from a financial stand point is no trivial task and whilst our contribution maybe smallish compared to the large sponsors - all revenue helps - to the point where PRE came up with a large proportion of the funds needed to pay for an extra rookie - Angus Graham.

We love the Tigers - we put our money where our passion is.........I for one am very proud of PRE for this........RT

wigney, I think the point is that the term "sponsor" might be a little confusing. It sounds like we are contributing cash directly to those players, but as others have already pointed out it doesn't work like that. After last week, I wouldn't mind if Dean Polo got a little bonus though !

Thanks for clearing that up everyone. What a valuable cause. Real proud to be part of PRE!
