Nor running under the flight of the ball with a pack approaching.

What like his mark against Adelaide?

No,like the game in Brisbane where he deliberately pulled out of a contest rather than take a hit which he knew was coming.

Geez.

I now apologise to all posters on here.

I now see what I am like when I post about Krakouer. ( if I am similar to posters posting about Pettifer )

I am deeply ashamed and as a Tiger supporter sorry for my posts.

What else can Pettifer do this year. Granted he has quietened a little near the end, but this player has sweated and toiled for this club in the last 2 years more than most. This player knew he needed to improve and has more than done that.

This player IMO has nothing left to prove to anyone.

He is surely one of our most valuable players, and as some stats shown on this thread show, he is a vital cog in this team.

Yes he needs to continue to improve, but we want that from all our players.

Once again.

IMO this player has nothing left to prove, he has shown his worth and commitment to this club, and he has obviously worked very hard to do that.

Good stuff U2. :clapping :clapping :clapping

I can see (and I'm sure other posters can as well) that Kayne P generates a lot of debate about his ability and value as a player, like some of his other teammates, e.g. Andrew Krakouer, Greg T etc. I enjoy the discussion and various points of view. Some supporters believe he has improved in leaps and bounds, others believe he should have been traded on and there are many that have mixed views. The bottom line is that the RFC have him contracted for 2007… so let him have one more chance to convince us all! :D

Have a look at the past 5 weeks ;)

Last five weeks he has averaged 17 possessions, 7.8 marks, 4.8 inside 50s, which is around his average for the year, so he hasnt been a slouch in that area. He doesnt appear to have drifted into the backline as often over the last few weeks, could that have been a team direction maybe? Regardless, for a half forward flanker these are pretty good statistics even in the last 5 weeks. Just needs to get his kicking for goal confidence back,

Good to see we all agree he's human.

As I've said before, the bottom line with Kayne Pettifer is that the RFC have him contracted for 2007… so he has at least one more chance to convince us all, no matter what our point of view is about his value to the RFC.

Happy about all the re signs, bar Kayne Pettifer! Glad it was only for one year, he has a long way to go to be consistent footballer. He is not 'one of our most dangerous forwards' at all. A shade over 1 goal per game and poor defensive play attests to that! :(

absolute myth.

Well done to all.

Funny how RFC thought they'd keep Petts on contrary to some experts here on PRE. Maybe they are naive and blinded by mere facts such as Pettifer being 3rd in the league in inside 50's, 7th in the league in marks taken and 13th in the league in kicks. Disapointing year according to some. Gee those below him on those lists must be real duds.

he's also our leading goalkicker isn't he?

Tivendale is regarded as one of our elite players by other clubs,

how come no one wanted him when we put him up for trade last year?

Like most people here they only see richmond players with Rose coloured glasses.

i see it from a different angle. people are so stubborn that they refuse to admit pettifer is now one of our better players and first picked every week.

Surprised at White. Thought as a draftee he would have been tied up until the end of '07 alreaady.

he was taken in the PSD. it's not an mandatory 2 year commitment.

You know the only reason some here still refuse to acknowledge that Pettifer has turned into a top-class footballer is because many bagged him (maybe fairly) two and three years ago and cant admit that they've made an error in judgement.

here here :clap :clap

2 points:

1. tw on SEN last night said raines, simmonds, j bowden and johhno will fight it out for the jack dyer medal. he said he believes pettifer comes next.

2. why is this thread full of negative comments on one player? we should be excited about our promising kids being signed up!!!!

pettifer is no kid. at 24  hes a mid range player who is still generating debate about his worth. why the club would sign him up just before draft time is beyond me. imo hes very tradeable but by signing him up you more or less take him out of trade calculations.

Not so sure claw. Can;t he still be traded regardless, just on his new contract terms?

He can be but won't. That would be bloody draconian.

My point about Pettifer is that he's trending the wrong way over recent weeks and that he sends the wrong message to the youngsters. Why announce a contract extension now when a kick up the arse is more in order?

That he's a valuable offensive player I don't doubt for a moment. The issue is that it's not enough. He has within his capabilities right now the option of lifting his game by a whole level if only he makes a habit of contesting at collisions. I can see that it's smart for offensive players to sag off the ground contests at critical moments but that's not to say that Pettifer's game should all but exclude collisions.

If Pettifer attacks only half of the contested ball he currently avoids, he will go up a notch as a player. It's up to Wallace to coach him to do this. Maybe with this season all but lost and a big pre-season in the offing for the improving Tigers, Wallet is trying to keep his smart users injury free. Maybe.

I think judges of Pettifer's form who take a generous line on him are falling into the same trap that Kayne does. That is of thinking that what he currently does is enough.

Many of us think he's capable of better. Let's hope Wallet does and is able to keep raising the bar for our best half forward flanker. I'd hate to see him settle for second best.

BTW I expect Pettifer to show improved intensity tonight. He must have got a spray during the week for his half hearted efforts of last week.

Petts hasn't been totally happy with his form over the last few weeks either, being a running flanker part of his job is to slip his opponent and find some space to provide another option for the ball carrier.
At times that option either isn't seen or used by the ball carrier meaning he runs his arse up and down the paddock all game for not much return, it also means that if we butcher the ball and turn it over Kane gets left with his opponent free and no way of getting back to make a legal contest for the ball.
A thought on his slight decrease in goal kicking reliability. He is now running approx 12/15 ks per game compared to probably 5/6ks when he was restricted to just being a forward, is it possible that this would affect his kicking ability as he seems to kick up and under slightly when trying to make shots from around the fifty arc.

Jack I agree that Pettifer can and should get better but I take a more generous line on how many contests he avoids. Also I only see him as a player who has only played 2 ful seasons in any meaningful role. However I think a lot of tigers need to up their off ball smarts and intensity. There are a lot of players who just stand with hands on hips (pettifer a main culprit) when opposing sides run the ball out without actually looking to seriously cut down oprions or chase or tackle so as to at least limit the ball carriers options. Tambling who I like is guilty of such "ball watching" without involvement as is Richo, B2 also demonstrates the same traits. If all players take a leaf out of Foley's and Raine's work in this regard we will improve exponentially.

Good spot Dyer. Played very well again. Sometimes you need a bit fo a spray. Pettifer does appear the sort to rest on his laurels at times, but I still think he's an extrmely valuable player, who has the ability to turn it on. Sometimes you just have to accept players for what they are able to give (whilst continually trying to improve them) and realise that having them in your side is more valuable than trying to find a replacement who has greater defensive skills but cant do what they are supposed to do in the forward line, and thats kick goals.

Pettifer is a required player in my books.
