Raines

So many posters talking about Raines in the middle. Perish the thought he needs ever extra split second which he can get when in the backline and the game in front of him. Will be a great interchange player for us. Depth is good.

Stick him in the middle !! ;D
I dunno TF, Foley's kinda got that explode out of the middle role covered (when not tagged out of it). Tuck, Hislop & Thomson should be good feeders. I personally want the ball in the hand of Lids Cuz or Conners when delivering to our forward line.
Try him though, if he can hit up targets then why not, or if like Foley he can run and score from the midfield all the better. He is a great ball winner and is alot like his Dad which is a big wrap.

Hislop & Thomson can build their game at Coburg for now while we can first try out Raines in the middle considering he can burst out quick and boot the ball long into attack.

At least it's less likely for the opposition to score from midfield if he continues his habit of getting caught with the ball.

Thought Raines played well along with other fringe players Polo & Jackson all were strong at the man & the ball Raines has a bigger build these days & could start breaking a few of those tackles Polo's attack on the footy is fantastic these are the guys that must step up to replace Johnson & Bowden etc Can't see King getting a game?

Yeah I kinda forgot about Polo & Jackson. We may actually have some depth now with inside (or hard at it) mids.

True, there's no reason to assume that the Hislop & Thomson pickups were walk up starters. I hope they are though.
I think the bottom line with Rainsey is that if he gathers, sprints once, then hits a target he can play wherever he likes.

he played well first up...he and McMahon will be vying for that same spot in the side...I still don't like the way he tries to take on the opposition with every possession...you just won't get away with it against a good opponent.

Don't agree, king will not get a game with a fit Raines running around.

Good to see him back, bad luck Kingy, keep having a crack though as you never know what s around the corner..

Best of luck to Raines this year. His discipline and commitment are ahead of those he battles for position with, but his skills are probably not.
