Rance & McGuane

Dirty night for Willy T Oldie shocker obvious as the proverbial but he hasnt put in too many over the journey so far.

However Willy T has proven an effective defender of good quality a good stopper, he isnt ever gonna rack up numbers on a stat sheet as a rebounder but he reads the play very well and uses the footy better than Muscles.

Very good disposal efficiency last season has Will if i recall correctly.

Willy will be ok, i wonder how fit he was on Thu night.

I thought Will looked slow actually craig.
Not sure if it's the weight he's put on over pre season or not but he looked to have lost some agility.
For a guy who's game relies on him being quick off the mark over the first 5m, he wasn't last Thursday.
As you say he may not have been 100% fit but if that's the case he shouldn't have been playing.
Something wasn't right. :headscratch

Leysy's amazed by that. Moore beat all comers from Fev to Brown to Buddy least season.

on Mcguane, leysy thought he was awful in the first qtr when the heat was in the game & the match was being decided. Gave away two frees to Fev, dropped a sitter & got outmarked by Kreuzer all in that stanza ILRC.

With you on moore, I was staggered when he said that, about the only thing McGuane does excel at is spoiling so maybe that is how they have come to that crazy conclusion? :help

As I've said I think McGuane is on borrowed time in that he can be easily improved on with the right coach/recruiting/development (of another player).

That said I still think McGuane was one of our better players last Thursday. Is he a elite AFL player or someone to build our future on?, not for mine, but he was amongst our best last Thursday night (doesn't say much :P) under a lot of fire he was bound to stuff up. At least he had some tenacity and fight in him, unlike 90% of the side.

Wasn't that surprised. With Fev basically on one good leg, I thought it was a pretty smart match up to use McGuane's only natural talent, grappling and spoiling on a barely-able player. This left space and opportunity for Moore to run off, collect/receive and deliver - didn't happen though did it? That's the thing about best laid plans......................

Agree with you DD, McGuane wasn't the worst. The damning spilt mark of his was no worse than Delidio's mis-kick - both resulted in a free goal and the last time I looked they were both worth 6 points to the opposition (as were the other clangers that resulted in goals from Brown to Foley!

Think some people have to get over this game and trust or hope it was an aberration. I do! The occasion got to our boys - no question! Reminicent of rabbits in a spotlight up Balranald way.................

How they bounce back this week will tell a bigger story for mine!

Laceout was number three defender last year behind Thirsty and Kel. No idea why he was given the job on Peevola but he had a crack at it all night.
The way the ball was getting rammed into Cartoons forward line and the amount of pressure that was applied by their forwards when the ball got there it's no surprise how poor our defenders appeared to be.
The whole team got slaughtered except for Mitch Morton. When that happens all you can hope for is that some of the players at least fight as best they can against their opponents. Laceout and Raines can at least hold their heads up in this regard.

Even if Rance is selected you can almost guarantee that Terry will play him in the wrong position. McGuane started very poorly on Thursday, but recovered to be one of the only guys trying to play positively in the backline, unfortunately the poor start is indicative of his play.

Recent history would suggest anything within 50pts will be deemed as a victory. :blah
It's very reminiscent of 2006, got smashed by the Dogs in Rd 1, came to play against the Aints and lost by a couple of goals. The icing on that cake was Thursty doing his knee. Yet another wasted season.

Must say that I was very disappointed with the way McGuane failed to stick like glue to Fevola.

McGuane was regularly caught on the rebound with Fevola 15 yards behind him towards goal. Not good for any FB.

Rance would seem a good match up, as well as McGuane, on Hawkins, if both Hawkins & Rance are included.

Both are tall, strong & inexperienced in the AFL.
