Benny, reckon thats unrealistic.

Outside Kreuzer who is a No 1 pick please tell leysy the 18 y.o key position/ruckman that have played 15 or more games in there 1st season?

Grant, Henderson, Lobbe, McEvoy, Rance were all KPP players taken early that last season that never made any impression.

Leuenberger, Thorp, Reid, Gumbleton, Brown X 2, Reiwoldt, Sellar, Hampson are the key forward/rucks from the previous season taken in the top 20. Not one of those played close to 15 games early doors.

The list goes on & he will be the extreme exception to the rule if he does what your "expecting".

Tyrone has already been using AFL facilities for quite a while, this is a huge advantage.

We go on and on about the disadvantage Cotchin had by missing a pre-season... well Vickery is the exact opposite.

Plus there aren't many players to hold him back. Big Sideshow will make an impact next year, if he doesn't then I will be mildly disappointed.

The gap between TAC and AFL is massive. The easiest way to learn to do anything is gradually. Bigger guys especially are prone to copping a hiding if they are undersized. Let's see Vickery dominate a VFL game or two before deciding that time there will stunt his development shall we?

Ridiculous post Patsy. Throw them in straight away and if they can't handle, then delist.

Too true :clap Don't give the duds a chance to infect our club. They either can hack it or they can't. And if they can't, we delist 20 players next year and bring in young kids who will at least give a crack. And if they fail, we will delist those duds too.

If that's the case guys lets not hear any whinging if Vickers gets a Ottens or Charman knee to the sternum and spends 4 weeks at Vimy house.

Couldn't agree more. I do think, like Leuenberger he will be able to play in his first year, albeit in a very limited way and protected. The coaching committee will have to get his match up rights, have him play a little back up ruck and rest him in a forward pocket/on the bench a bit.

Young talls, especially rucks, extrememly rarely are able to give a regular consistent input in their first year. It's a big ask.

More importantly, I think we need to give Graham opportunity. I can't see him becoming a elite ruck myself, but he needs to be given every opportunity to be found out either way. I'd like to see a starting line up of Simmonds/Gus and like Leuenberger was, ease Vickery into the side in the last half of the season if Gus doesn't stand up.

In terms of potential, it's not just about physicality/mature bodies, which is obviously important, but footy brains/talent. While they can't do it consistently, those of true strong potential can show something.

Leuenberger had one game in his first handful against Sydney where he got 15 disposals, 12 Hitouts, 2 Tackles and 1 Brownlow Vote.

Leuenberger and Kruezer are the two best rucks to come through the system in some time, but I am confident Vickery can match them in time or at least be closer to them than the next tier behind them.

I'd love it if he could grow a couple centimeteres or 3.. ;D.

3 deficiencies - Ruck, Key Fwd and Inside Mid.

Draft = Vickery (tick), Post (tick), Hislop (tick)

...i think we did fine - got players that fill voids. Hislop is a little bit of a concern - but we already know he can play which is a positive.

Still another key fwd short.

Maybe Maybe not.
If Putt can come on along with Patto,we are not in a bad position.
In fact all 3 can play Fwd and in the Ruck.Wouldnt that be a nice thing to have,Instead of being one dimensional for the past 15yrs

If Polak doesn't come up then we definitely need another KPP probably one who can play fwd and back. Even with Polak I think we're still probably short compared to other clubs.

Yeah I still think we are one tall forward short (if that makes sense)

I'm still keen on Sibosado in the PSD

Who do we have as legit tall forwards (looking to the future)
Hughes - still has question marks but has shown he has the potential
Riewoldt - can play, only question as to if he can play as a CHF/FF or just a HFF
Post - developing, hopefully can play as the big mobile CHF
Patto - big question marks on pace, 2nd ruck could be his go

Schulz - played well down back this year IMO, seems lost as a forward, last chance to cement a spot this year

No position is cemented IMO
Riewoldt will play there just not sure where
The rest are unproven

Have i missed anyone?

Hoefully you've counted in, for 2009, one of:

1. John Butcher
2. Jack Fitzpatrick, or
3. Anthony Morabito

Have I missed anyone?

Agree 8ty. We mostly addressed structure.
I am fine with the draft on the whole though do wonder why we picked up more recycleds...

No doubt a few playing(and coaching) careers are riding on success this season.
If we fall over I expect we'll have quite a few more ND picks next year..

down the track..(way down the track)...id probably like to see:

Post Reiwoldt

Putt /Vickery Hughes

* after seing Post pluck just about everything in site, i would love to see him roaming CHF.
* jack as a lead up O'keefe type
* Putt and Vickery swapping through the ruck and resting fwd
* Cleve where he should be - FF

and a squad something like:

FB: Moore Thursfield White

HB: Newman McGuane Rance

C: Connors Cotchin Tambling

HF: Edwards Post Reiwoldt

FF: Morton Hughes Putt

R. Vickery, Deledio, Foley

I. Thomson, Hislop, Polo etc

I like that lineup tha8ball except I would swap White for Tambling and have him play in Rances place with Rance in the pocket. I think White would make a better impact with his speed and power in the middle. Overall though a nice looking team really and the exciting thing is that this will be the bare mininum of talent we will have at our desposal in the future before factoring in future draftees/trades etc.

In terms of the draft - I was happy with Vickery and Post because they were recruited for talent and need. Thomson will add much needed depth immediately which is important over the next few years and Hislop also. The jury is out for me with Hislop though - I was excited about the prospects and raw talent that Collard possessed but his attitude brought him down too.

I hope he can change his attitude for his and our sake.

Tha is a good point. I rated Collard immensely but obviously the Tigers didnt think they could address his attitude. Hislop is just a Collard replacement in this regard and begs the question what is it that Hislop had that Collard didnt to warrant delisting him and replacing with Hislop. Willing to give the guy a go but its an interesting thought.

I just think Whitey might be squeezed out of the midfield with the likes of Edwards, Connors, Tambling etc have a little more upside in terms of natural talent...im sure he will be part of the rotation. I think if he could make the back pocket his own - then he gives himself a better chance of staying in the 22 over the coming years. Has the speed and toughness to be a good back pocket.
