Maybe Maybe not.
If Putt can come on along with Patto,we are not in a bad position.

Patto ?

When's the last time Patto took a mark in the forward line and kicked a goal? Whens the last time he kicked a goal? When's the last time he took a mark?

Agree. Patto is a back up ruckman. At best.

Patto kicked a goal in his last game of 2008 (against Adelaide Round 19) and took 4 marks

So all other talls are allowed to take time to develop,Yet Patto cant afford that because he,s at Richmond. He lost almost 2yrs of his development because of Simmo,s injury.

He can take all the time he wants but he's slow, can't mark, can't kick

At the end of 2009 we'll see who is right regarding how many games Vickery will play. My money is on 15+ providing he has a good pre-season and is injury free, I'd like to see some people claim 5 games or less.

I’d be really happy if he played 10, and wouldn’t consider a 5 game season a disappointment at all.

If he dominates the first 3 or 4 rounds of VFL playing first ruck then yeah, 15 would be great. Until he does that though I don't see the point in calling him up. I also don't really see the point in predictions when at best we've got scant evidence of how good he is. Even if you've seen every junior game he's played they're all largely irrelevant compared to what he does against men early next year.

Huh? One could argue his development was fast tracked because of Simmo's injury. What you see now is pretty much what you are going to get.

Tha is a good point. I rated Collard immensely but obviously the Tigers didnt think they could address his attitude. Hislop is just a Collard replacement in this regard and begs the question what is it that Hislop had that Collard didnt to warrant delisting him and replacing with Hislop. Willing to give the guy a go but its an interesting thought.

the one major major difference your overlooking are the real reasons one got chopped & one got taken on.

It wasn't Collards attitude that saw him get the ax, it was his fitness. Hislop has no priors in that regard, trains extremely hard & has a very well cut body.

Patto is about to enter his 5th season, surely enough time to start making his mark.

Patto also had the grand total of 3 contested marks last season, Jack Reiwoldt who is 2 and a half years his junior took more than 5 times that.

This draft willl go down as another dissapointment the only player that'll be along term player with us is Vickery, all the rest will be flops especially the recycled crap.

As for that fella Harry going on about Patto you better listen to him b/c he is on the money. Oh dear the 2004 draft thank god Deledio was around or else the club would have turned that into a dog's breakfast as well.

Reiwoldt played as a key forward all year. Key forwards take far more contested marks than back up ruckmen for obvious reasons. Robert Campbell took a grand total of 11 contested marks all year for the premiers, is in his prime and played most of every game. Mark Blake played 25 games for the best team in the comp and took a grand total of 5.

Yep, the days of Ruckman taking pack marks are over, teams no longer put the ball into dispute round the ground. The only place they’ll do it voluntarily is inside 50 when a contested mark will lead to a shot on goal.

Most times. The Tiges actually used the long kick out to the ruckman, usually Simmonds, to get effect a few times this year. It seemed most times they were just happy to get the ball to ground though as the set play meant they had the numbers around the fall. They'll still also kick down the wing/flanks when all options are tied up and the ruckman usually parks himself under it then too. Bloody hard to mark it in that situation though as the numbers suggest.

That not really being set up with the expectation of a contested mark being taken, the goal of that is the ruck creates the contest and bring the ball to ground where our smalls have outnumbered theirs. It’s old school 1980’s style kick out strategy.

Yep for sure. Worked well a couple of times as a surprise tactic though.
