I am quite happy that we got vickery and post as we have been crying out for rucks and talls to go along with rance and putt from last year...
Hislop at 20 yrs old and pic 20 in the 2006 draft is a hard nosed midfielder, the type u like claw....
I do think we need a small crumbing fwd and cockie could well be that player, hard at it and has the body size to play straight away....Hope we pic him up in the PSD

Cheers to missing for passing on - that he's just spoke to the recruiting staff & we were 100% ready to read McCulloch's name out at 70.

And we missed by one pick....

Ricky Nixon mentioned that Brisbane overheard RFC talking about Bart McCulloch and then used pick 69 to snare him. [Fox Footy Show]

69: Brisbane Lions - Bart McCulloch
70: Richmond - PASS

Damn it. Richmond should have bought the cone of silence along.

Yep its not the PRE-Draft night we need to worry about in terms of confidentiality.

just makes the thing of others not prepared to send PM's to people thousands of miles away in case they tell a Blues supporter in far north Queensland who we will take.

Got to laugh haven't you.

The PRE Draft night - just PM in future - what a joke.

Don't forget we still have the PSD and the Rookie Draft to come. I'm sure some are still worried talking too openly may jeopardize our position in both of these.

I watched it mate on Foxtel, i was pretty pivved to hear that we were overheard by the lions that we were going to grab McCulloch

I mean how could they allow for this to happen, well it seems by that we were going tall with 3 out of 4 pics, vickery 200cms, post 194 and McCulloch 199

McCulloch a Ruckman who can also play as a tall midfielder. Has good pace and endurance for a player of his size. Clean below his knees and a solid kick. Tasmanian U18 Representative in NAB AFL U18 Championships.

Why worry about it when RFC broadcast it anyway.

Seems like a power trip with the confidentiality mumbo jumbo from those that can attend the Draft Night.

They should've used a secret code language..........yeah good one Prixon.

I thought we had a good result............. ???

NOW,

I am surprised at how bad people think we did. :o

But then I realized that they are the experts so I should now be dissapointed too! ::)

Seriously though, who cares if Brisbane overheard. Do we seriously think they will have changed their position on pick 69 because they heard we wanted it? Either they wanted him, or they wanted someone else. Knowing what RFC were planning would have added a bit of spice to it (knowing you were taking "their' guy), but there is no way in Hades they would have changed their plans because of us.

I am pretty pleased.

I cry for structure and thats what I got.

Absolutely delighted to get Tyrone Vickery. He was my pick very, very early, I actually got word that Essendon were keen on him two weeks ago and were considering to grab him, I was not happy, now I have a massive smile, he is what we needed and in my opinion, equal to Natanui in terms of football talent. In fact if we talk purely football, Vickery is ahead IMHO.

Jayden Post is interesting. I have not payed too much attention to him, and to be honest haven't looked at his athletic and football stats too often, I think we reached for him a tad, but by golly his stats both athletically and football wise is impressive. I have faith in Francis Jackson, I definitely know he knows what he is talking about and has a great eye for talent.

That solved structure to me. A Ruckman/Key Position player and another Key Position player. Great recruiting.

Tom Hislop is worth the gamble. Just have an issue with getting Adam Thomson for a third rounder then getting Hislop for a fourth? Doesn't make much sense as they play a similar role, and with Coughlan and Tuck around its getting a squeeze, but again in terms of structure, an inside ball winner, fantastic.

I am pleased, another pick to come in the PSD, very good effort FJ and CC.

im not sure how many times ive said this, when the whole draft is over thats when u say ok 3 kids in the ND, 1 in the PSD and say 1 traded for = X amount

In 2005 3 ND pics plus white in the PSD = 4 young kids, had it been 3 kids in the ND and say a kingsley in the PSD, then my word an absolute waste..

2006, JR, edwards, connors, collins, petersen and polak ( 6 players) 5 youngsters and polak was 22

2007, cotchin, rance, putt, gourdis all young players picked in the ND and PSD, morton who at 20 yrs old i classify as young...only mcmahon at 24 for pic 19 was wrong!

2008 - Vickery, Post and Hislop (hislop only 20 and we know he can play)....PSD another young pic taking it to 4 young draftees.....+ thompson 22 yrs old

Now if i am to agree somewhat with you claw is that this draft is seen to be one of the best along with 2001....there should've been min 1 or 2 more delistings...Most agree that RFC should have had 5 pics in the ND and perhaps 1 in the PSD taking it to 6 + thompson = 7 players
Worst case should've been at least 4 in the ND and 1 in the PSD + thompson = 6

In the rookie draft, theres sylvester we know, + i think they are going to rookie gourdis, and i hear fort caruso, thats 3, now we must pic another 2 or 3 to add to that list....

I am quite happy that we got vickery and post as we have been crying out for rucks and talls to go along with rance and putt from last year...

hmm the point is 2005 we stopped at pick 40, and traded pickk 55 for bowden sheesh we could have got bowden in the psd wb gave us bowden and offered pick 59 for pick 55. surely its better to use pick 55 or 59 and 71 in the nd when the overall pool of players to chose from is bigger than taking kids in the psd. 2007 we stopped at pick 51 we traded not one but two picks on recycled types picks 19 and 35. and this yr we stopped at pick 58 having traded pick 42 on a recycled. theres a hell of a lot of water under the bridge from these picks to the psd. taking a kid in the psd is tantamount to a first round rookie pick. take em in the nd the only thing stopping us utiliseing 4 or 6 picks more from the mentioned drafts is our total reluctance to delist /trade underachievers.

finally yeah we embrace the draft, as well as 05 07 08 in 2006 we trade pick 42 as well once again on a recycled underachiever with chronic deficiencies.
can anyone show me one player we have traded for thats been worth what we gave up in the last 5 drafts.
the real talent is in the nd we continue to fail ourselves by hedging our bets and not participating in the draft. bloody hell 3 nd picks while hanginging onto chronic underpachievers and still people defend whats going on. make no mistake nothing has changed at the rabble footy club not since 1986.

took this off OER....sums it all up :clap
just sick of all the morons bagging our selections

what have you seen of post other than the youtube vision on the afl site?

my guess is zero.

Post has played his whole career as a forward except for this year. He has the pace and the marking ability to be a forward.

It really annoys me when someone can sit behind a keyboard and what you tube vids of players for three minutes and then consider themselves qualified to question the clubs recruiting.

If you havent noticed, the clubs biggest needs were addressed on draft day and the trade period.

A grade developong ruckman with a genuine mean streak.
Big Bodied versatile KPf/b
2 tough big bodied midfielders to add to rotations

We now have a developing a grade ruckman that can play as a key forward. We have a 194 cm utility that can play as a key forward or as the biggest key backman of the club, he runs 20 metres in the top 15 percentile of his age and has elite endurance and took 50 more marks than any of his peers last year.

We also two more midfielders to add to our rotations, this means 74kg edwards can learn his trade on the flanks, which is where he belongs .....for now.

As far as this draft goes, we have been very fortunate indeed. But there will always be the dropkicks on this site who just love whinging and whining, and that without even having the luxury of ever seeing them play. Its a joke.

We have one more pick remember, and via waiting till psd, we can have the likely applicants train with us.
