Tony Free by a mile.If it wasn't for his injuries he would have made it to Richo status.Knights was feeble, the rest so so.

How do you put Newman ahead of Free, even Campbell? Sheesh.

Free
Knights

You think this is Matthew Knights?

4.lacking in force, strength, or effectiveness: feeble resistance; feeble arguments.

:rofl

Time for a review of Knights' career me thinks Mr Gold.

If we're talking captaincy...

Free

very clever Iceman.Or is it you Tony!

Just interested how Newman can be rated on his captaincy after 11 games considering the amount of games as skipper the other candidates have played.

Jeezuz I watched Knights play stacks of 15-20 possie games to go with his very occasional 30 plus possie ones. That left foot was sublime though, and the 1995 Ess final was his masterpiece. IMHO however, perhaps the most overrated player in my time supporting Richmond.
Freezer was a hard nut. Nowhere near the talent of Knights, but I loved him.

We agree.............again ;D

1. Free (great onfield leader of men)
2. Campbell (good onfield leader of men)
3. Knights (great onfield leader of some men)
4. Johnson (great mute)

Newman deserves the full season before judging against those who have amassed more successful coin tosses at interstate grounds than Newmo has captained games.......

If anything I reckon he was underrated by non-Richmond people. 20 disposals then wasn't like 20 disposals now, and 20 Knights possessions were often telling.

True, not saying he wasn't AFL standard, unlike half our list now, and then for that matter, but some people carry on as if he was Voss, or Riccutio or something....

Made Richmonds team of the century so he must of been a bit better than AFL standard.

Gun player.

Yeah, and Micheal Roach didn't! WTF!

Interesting that Jack Dyer named Roach at FF in his greatest ever Richmond side in 1981, after only three full seasons, with Titus on a flank. After that he moved into the ruck for a year and injuries curbed his brilliance.

CAMPBELL
KNIGHTS
JOHNSON
FREE
NEWMAN

I can't understand this fascination with Matthew Knights. Everyone bags Campbell for supposedly being soft yet they laud Knights who was as soft if not softer.

I may be in the minority here but I thought Campbell was a great on-field leader.

When Newman got the nod as Captain i raised my eye-bows for about three minutes.

Which is a long time when eye-brows are raised.

as captain

Knights
Free
Campbell
Johnson
Newman

me too.

As players (at richmond) Knights, Campbell, Free, Johnson, Newman

As players (career) Knights, Johnson, Campbell, Free, Newman

As bare-knuckle fist fighters, well unfortunately Knighter doesnt top this list, but you cant be all things to all people can you?
