Rd 2 changes

No need to panic. Chokingwood have a nimble forward line so bring in another runner rather than Garth (underdone) or Balta (underdeveloped). Keep KMac in his disrupting role, and Balta in his utility role - he can run with Grundy at times, or get in the way of Cox, and allow Nank to slip forward again.

I'm not sure who I'd want as the in: Ellis, Markov and Menadue have all underwhelmed one-on-one, but I expect on past selections that Ellis will get the gig.

Naish probably not ready either. Ross looks strong enough but hasn't been trained in that role.

Baker should take Butler's spot but it won't happen.

The tiny fleck of silver in this dark cloud,

is rancey wont get within 100m of degoey on Thursday.

gonna be interesting to see how Grimes or Broady go on him.

I think for now a spot in the back 7 is Brandos to lose.

Baker, or even Aarts, in for Butler; while he laid 7 tackles that was pretty much all he offered.

Even though he frustrates me with some of the things he does 7 tackles is massive and he'll definitely stay in. He's in the side to apply pressure and tackle. We need george and rioli in our f50 also.

Agree Tigermad.

He's polarising that's for sure, Butts.

I remember Saints match at the G last year.
I was ropable with him in the first quarter.

Torched some team mates, gave away free kicks, was lazy.
IIRC got a cheap goal out the back.

Ended up with 3 Goals.

What do I know.

He's a bit like his house mate Captain Chaos.

You just have to take the good with the bad.

Keep, keep, keep.

Yep a major part of 2017 was the chaos, pressure and unpredictability of the three smalls. They haven’t played together since the GF. Those 3 plus Higgins will cause some real headaches/excitement if we can make it happen.

Agree. People saying the game has moved on from this game plan and teams have figured it out, but I say we double down on mega chaos in our fwd 50. Lynch Jack Caddy Rioli George Butler should be our starting 6 with rotations from Dusty Higgo and Shed. Let's see which backline can handle the heat.

Another critical factor is that we aren't the most precise ball movement side and should stick to getting it in f50 quickly and locking it in. Let's not make too many changes to our winning formula.

A lot of talk here for Ellis coming in for Rance. In his case VFL form is largely irrelevant. Instead he needs to show over several weeks minimum that his attack on the ball is at AFL level.
Garthwaite isn't fit and there are also doubts about about either Chol or Moore as a suitable replacement.

We need to focus on our midfield speed if we are to limit Collingwood's forward opportunities. We have Balta, Broad and McIntosh if things go badly wrong down back this week, and importantly no tall back who can provide a like for like replacement.

In Bolton.
Out Rance.

B Broad Astbury Grimes (Elliot)
HB McIntosh Valistun Houlie
C Bolton Martin Lambert (Sidebottom)
HF Rioli Edwards Higgins
F Graham Riewoldt Lynch
R Nankervis Cotchin Prestia
I/C Balta Butler Short Weller.

its was hot after the game and with a rye smile when asked by roaming Brian Dimma ranked our performance 4 (I think he then said 3) out of 10. There was a lot he was not happy with. Does that translate to 2-3 changes ??? wait and see Wed night.

Dimma is the type of guy that will give the incumbents an opportunity to learn from round 1 and improve. My guess is that any changes will be injury and structure focused rather than punishment

Only if Gath needs more VFL minutes

That's what I factored in plus Pies have a forward line simular to us with a few mid quick sized players , so I went for bit of extra run with Ellis

I see both Rioli and Butler as non-negotiable smalls for our forward line this year. It's tempting to include George in that given we don't seem to have any superstar kids banging on the door. Pressure isn't something the opposition can "figure out".

These type of players firing should do more to cover the loss of Rance than whoever is added to the backline IMO.
