Rd 6 2016 Game Day Thread

27k attendance enough said . If the powerbrokers can't see the problem then we have bigger issues than the coach and players
It really stood out how little a crowd it was and the fact that the fans were so quiet.

I think I can honestly say that backline tonight is the worst I have seen at Punt Rd, 2 woefuls, 1 past solid player, 1 held together by Elastoplast that takes longer to make a move then a chess player, and one solid foot soldier who's in the worst form his been in at punt rd, plus just the rotating kids

I was stunned by the number of PA supporters. Richmond numbers really down and pretty average atmosphere.

The enthusiasm of the Tiger Army is being killed off rapidly this year. Insipid performances confirming EF collapses.

If anyone else suffering from insomnia, flick on 3RRR Party Show (102.7 FM), RoCo, Peter Jess and Gavin Crosisca, making for interesting radio.

I never played footy. At any level. So my comments are only from watching the game. What stands out to me, and has been a feature of Hardwick's tenure. Is that we don't set up at stoppages to attack the goals. We look to get it to Cotch in tight and then look to transfer it out by hand through 2 or 3 players before we kick it long. Port tonight, and most othe r "good" sides seem to set up with a good inside player but with multiple running options to take it away from the contest.

When Healy kept talking about Richmond looking slow I believe this is what he was seeing. We set up stationary players at different levels while our oppontents are already on the move. That is why they break tackles. It is much easier to break a tahkle when the tackler is stationary and the tacklee is on the move.

Ditto the turnovers. Dimma is confused about why we leak goals on turnover. Same reason. Moving players can change direction quicker and jump higher and have more impact than stationary ones. But that is about confidence and trusting your teammates. When do you see Rance, Jack, Martin stationary? Rance looks so good because he always backs himself. But the list as a whole have lost confidence. So they play to a zone and hold their position while our oppontents run around us like witches hats.

Wouldn't you lose confidence if your coach was telling you to play a 2014 game style against other teams playing a 2016 game style.

they are spent and look it. and the fresh energy the needed to come in hasn't been given the chance.

That's it exactly, there's no energy. We slowly drop out of the contest, like a battery going flat.

If the players don't believe in the gameplan, now's the time for a face-to-face with the coach. It's gotta come from the leadership group.

Thanks for the reports everyone.

I can't bring myself to watching any games at the moment. Self preservation. Might go next week but mostly more for social.

Dark days. Dimma put up the white flag against port in the pre-season and has forgotten to take it down.

Jonathan Brown came to my house in a dream last nght and gave me a counselling session. We sat on the couch and talked about life. But at the end I asked him what we should do, what I should do, 'I dunno snake' he said with his head bowed. Damn you Browny, you're meant to now your stuff.

I posted last night Ivan, Hampson, Astbury and Chaplin, add to that Jack, who isn't a speedster anyway but had a bung ankle, that has to be one of the slowest sides in the last 20 years. Tanking?

Also as I said last night, emplematic of the night of where we're at, where Chaplin is at, last Q, season and career on the line, kick comes in on the wing, Chaplin 1 on 1, has the sit, if ever we needed someone to do something and take a risk it was then, if he was even an OK player he would have taken the mark, punches to the bloody boundary.

Where's Jake King when you need him.

Last week I watched us get run off our legs by Melbourne. This week it happened yet again. We have very poor two way runners. The Saints then outran the Dee's yesterday.

Surely we have to be fit enough.

I would love for the GPS numbers to be made public.

I didn't see the Melb game but last night was more about Port players breaking tackles and bursting through two or three Richmond players around a contest into space and catching us out of position (they kicked at least 2 goals into the punt road end from 60 m plus because our structures were shot. It was a combination of defensive structures not really working and when we did get the ball we hand-passed it to a stationary player who was in a no better position and our long kicks into the forward line went to a three on one situation. That is all about confidence in my view which affects decision making - not necessarily about fitness.

From what I have read, Melbourne beat us around the stoppages with their bigger bodied mids.

Adelaide beat us with swift ball movement - 50 to 60m low fast accurate kicks.

I didn't see us getting run off our feet but I did see a team that was very slow to react, slow to move the ball (scared to turn the ball over perhaps) and lacking any confidence to take the game on - lids in the last quarter and perhaps Grigg and Martin tried at various times but it was a rare sight last night.

Terrible structures around the ball. Everyone standing still or, the opposite, trying to jump on the ball.

As someone points out in a different thread, we need to set up with something like Miles and Cotch, going in to get the ball, with the 'outsiders' MOVING so they can be hit up and break away. Enough of this 'stacks on the mill and hope to squeeze the ball out to someone other than an opposition player...'

Saw Carro and Mr Carro heading back to the car park at 3 Quarter time. They didn't look happy. Expect another column soon :)

Old mate Polec carved us. With players out he stood up.

Bit of egg on face round here. Further illustrates how important midfield depth is.

Yes i pointed out to Leysy that he owed you an apology

Richmond's starting 22 owe Leysey an apology. Letting that skinny little outside weasel carve us up was the lowlight of the game.
