Krakouer was dropped for two weeks actually not one as was indicated in your post.

He was actually injured for the first week and didn't play at coburg so i think he's right in saying it was only for one week!

Wallace has a plan he is too good a coach not to,

I thought Wallace was a good coach too, but could you please give some examples of how he has demonstrated he is a good coach.

After I saw Year of the Dog I thought TW was a brilliant motivator. Our performances after the 100 point belting last year showed that he did have the capacity to improve the teams morale. This years performances however have altered my opinion of his capabilities, the players touching a "Hurt" sign today smacked of smoke and mirror nonsense. I am beginning to think that Wallace is like one of those faith healers on american TV, he has his staunch supporters but when you critically analyse what he has actually achieved he is no better than Frawley and worse than Eade.

I used to think Wallace's strengths as a coach was his tactical nous and his ability to motivate players-whether I have been decieved by his very good spin doctoring is yet to be decided. But I am now positive that we recruited the wrong "type" of coach, what we needed was a strategic thinker who could have identified how crap our list was and had a plan on how to rebuild the club. As ridiculous as it sounds, I think Grant Thomas might have been a better choice for coach given the state of our list.

Due to the length and size of TW's contract we cannot now change horses mid-stream, but I hope he now spends more time trying to develop and improve our list rather than trying to think of tactical ploys to beat individual teams.

I think you make some excellent points. I still think that Wallet can be a very good match day coach (I was also very pleased when he first came to Richmond), however I now think his ability to assess and build a list are questionable. I also believe that having such a high media profile has been a detriment. He has pronounced, anaylised, pontificated and theorized. His opinions have been widely respected. When he came to Richmond I think ego and pride would have compelled him to try and acheive quick results. Getting rid of the hacks and trading for draft picks for the ones that won't be here when we make a tilt at the premiership would have no doubt meant a more modest return in games won over the last two years. Coming as something of a saviour to this club it would have been a bitter pill to swallow. Conversely perhaps he was just too overconfident in his own ability to push the playering group to another level (again maybe a side effect of having such a high media profile).

Ironically I think he would be a very good coach for St Kilda at their present state of developement. Likewise, perhaps where we are at the moment (and it pains me to write this because I have always despised the man) Grant Thomas would do a very good man for the Richmond position. Whatever, unless he walks we are stuck with Wallet for the next couple of years. Let's hope at least something good comes of them.

Good points - I also think Terry is a good match day coach but needs the cattle. I also was happy to see him coach Richmond although would have been equally happy to have Eade. With respect to having a coach one liked personally , I would have preferred Eade as he is a more straight up type of guy.

I was always concerned about some of wallace's list decisions including getting rid of players like Montgomery and Cameron, although a contrary argument can be made that the picks in return produced dividends. Appears to favour athletes over footballers and he may eventually be proven right but is up against it ATM - the ray of hope is Jackson's recent involvement in recruiting as our 2006 batch look like footballers first and athletes second

I've had a quick squiz throught this thread but it doesn't really paint a picture of how we played.

I haven't seen the game and would appreciate it if anyone would be so kind as to describe our efforts for me. Terry sounded pretty happy and indicated we were much improved. Someone else said the scoreboard flattered us.

Can anyone fill me in please? :)

In a nutshell, we played like a side trying not to get shellacked. Wasn't pretty. Gave a yelp and played reasonably well at times. We were never going to win but the umps killed us as well, Richo crucified.

Fair enough, Ts.

We were pretty poor but quite a few had a dip.

They took their foot off the gas a bit after half time. We ran out the last quarter. The "winning the second half" line is irrelevant- we outscored them in the last quarter. We were smashed in the second and third quarters and beaten in the first.

We often showed a lack of spirit or belief. I'm not sure which.

Our midfield wasn't much worse than theirs on the day. Overall. At least we could get a kick.

Dean Polo tagged Chad Cornes, who was nearly BOG but paradoxically Polo did okay. Richo had a shocker playing ruck. Didn't commit to the contests and looked lost (and injured). Even timid.

Foley improved again and lifted the team at times. (He had P.Burgoyne from memory.) Tivendale tried to lift us but coughed it up at critical moments (Cassisi-opponent IIRC?). Sugar had the better of Shaun Burgoyne. Can't remember who Tuck had- he was just average.

Patto was lost at times, well most of the time, but he took a couple of excellent pack marks. Impressive in this regard but and got a bit more air at the bounces. Kicking was poor.

Polak did a couple of nice things and beat Tredrea on the day (beware of the hype- Tredrea can't walk). Bowden was very good for most of the game but leaked a bit. Saved Polak's bacon a couple of times.

McGuane imploded. Dunno. Hughes got lost.

Lids started at #3 back and had a shocker on White- not interested in defending. Then went forward (last quarter) and flew for a few speckies- absolutely smashed a pack at one stage but didn't take the grab. Very much a glory seeker on the day.

Howat, Tivendale, King and Raines gave us some much needed run. Each coughed it up but kept our margin presentable through hard work.

Newman was okay but Rodan kicked two. About the story of our day. Whoever had Ebert flogged him.

Generally, our two big weaknesses were exposed again. We can't kick. And at the stoppages we are far too light and frail. Even delicate Port was able to sweep us aside at times.

just got back from the game, highlight was beers with Shawry at half time. Awful.

JON just is not up to the pace of AFL footy at the minute, unbelievable.

Agree with both these points, Those two quickfire beers were also my highlight, and agree JON jsut doesnt look confidentat hat level.

Havent talked about htis game yet andhavent gotten over it. Seriously I watched the replay later on Fox and we were so much worse live. What you dont see on the TV is the sheer laziness of our players. Joel Bowden irritated me, he in the third quarter he allowed a bloke leading to the ball an easy mark when if he hadnt given up on it 2 steps before the guy grabbed it he could have put some serious pressure on the guy and may have caused a fumble. Go for the pressure the whole way, dont give it to him with 2 steps to go. One of his teammates did it better later and surprise surprise the ball fell out. Even if he was definitely goign to mark it, make him earn it with pressure every step til he grabs it.

Also half leads and hten stopping not ducking back and releading was also a feature of our laziness.

Then there was our abysmal skills and serious stop starting that you could tell would get us in trouble.

Anyway terrible football game I wanted to spray Wallace at 3/4 time when I was standing outside the caoches box but I didnt have the heart. After all he wasnt one o our 22 players who clearly lost it for us.
