Watching Rix run around got me to thinking. Although Thomas stuffed up almightily by thinking you didn't need rucks, he might have pulled it out of the fire by recruiting Rix at a mature age. This might be a better way to recruit second ruckmen. The salary cap and draft dictates that its unlikely you'll be able to recruit 2 star rucks and/or keep both. Obviously you would still draft an ackowledged mobile, fast, star ruck, like a White, Kosi, Fraser etc at 17. But it could be a good way to go to recruit your second ruck at a mature age, 23-26 after a few seasons in the VFL , SANFL etc. This way less resources devoted to a player who may or may not make it.
We all know all a second ruck has to do is contest, intimidate, take a few marks in the backline.
Then you could spend more time devoted to devoping skilled runners. What do people reckon
