i was researching our recruiting since 86 and it make's some very depressing reading. mind you some of the other clubs were just as bad as we were. it was interesting to note a change of recruiting sucess at footscray when terry took over.
they made mistakes but they were continuing to pick up the base of the side that is playing today.

this may have been their recruiting managers doing but i'm sure terry had say in who and what sort of player was being recruited.

out recruiting has only hit it's straps in recent years and hopefuly with the personel we have in place it will continue to thrive.

p.s some of our posters should be eating humble pie now after the harsh critisism they heaped on miller after the 2004 national draft.

i'm not happy with our key defenders.

Enough has been said about the guys who do the job at the moment

Schulz is maybe a forward, maybe back. NO-ONE knows.

McGuane and Thursfield are not very tall or heavy. But they are quick.

Limbach, hughes, pattison, Graeme will play forward or ruck.

We might look at trading for one...or drafting a dead set certainty ;)

Brown
Simmonds
P. Bowden
Knobel

All very strong experienced player pickups in last couple of years

Deledio, Raines, Tuck, Polo, Tambling, Meyer, Pattison

All recent additions who played yesterday, future star-studded lineup (not convinced with Pattison yet)

Thursfield, Schulz, McGuane

It is the key-position backline that is the current issue for the Tigers Thursfield is still young so still has plenty of muscle to add to his body and that will come. I think at 191cm he is the right size for a key position backmanespecially with his speed and good leap. Schulz still needs to prove himself. Has played a few games, but has still to show that he can be a consistent performer, but again still young. McGuane I cant comment as have seen vritually nothing of him. Need to increase our stocks of potentials in this area to ensure we do build some quality. With the advent of some very good smaller youngsters, maybe there is opportunity in the next couple of years to trade for some under-rated but ready-made key-position backmen in the drafts. The general consensus is that it does take talls longer to mature, so picking up just youngsters could mean a long wait.

Cheers

last year we needed someone to handle the small fwds who were plundering Richmond left, right and bloody centre. Raines has handles this task with such comprehensive success he may win the club it's second National Rising Star award and his first best and fairest.

now we need a tall key defender who will have a similar influence.

Very big call this one!  Is having a good season thus far but let's just hope he keeps improving at the current rate.

B&F might have a few in the field but the rising star is his in the bag!!

Thursfield next year hopefully or even a kid like young Hansen who is 195 cm, agile and a specialist CHB who would be a great get in the draft.

10 goals in 2 weeks.
He's a forward.

Thinking the same thing, Schulz has been playing forward for Coburg and that's where TW wants him to play, if he was groomed as a backman you know where he would be playing. As time will go by, if need be his versatility may require him to play in defence.
