PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

Went to the G today and saw a side who overplayed the ball on too many occasions. When a player has the ball running at full tilt and in the clear, this is GOLD in today's game. Too many times, we choose poor options because we are obsessed with maintaning possession and avoiding a contest.
In short, we lack confidence in each other to kick long to a contest in the forward line.
Speaking of which, I would put Luke McGuane at CHF and leave him there for three weeks. McGuane is a serious competitor who has a defensive side to his game, but also has the flair to go forward and give us a contest in the corridor. He has the agility to provide a good second and third effort.
Shane Crawford, admittedly one of Shakespeare's fools, surprised me on the way home with his serious analysis of the game. He said we are not good enough to play this over possessing the ball gameplan, and I couldn't help agreeing that we continually bring ourselves unstuck by kicking short and handballing to stationary players who are caught or under pressure.
I think we need to kick long when there is no OBVIOUS short option and put some trust in our forwards to compete.
Snippets.
Nathan Brown is sadly unable to chase and tackle any more. Other sides use this.
Richo needs to stay at Full forward where he is an asset. Sides have worked him out on the wing. (Davey today) Collins Nahas and Connors showing glimpses. Joel on fire all day. Foley is improving with every game. Shane Tuck's disposal is awful. Cotchin needed desperately.......not a great day for us really.
