Just a reminder that PRE will be out of action from 3.30 this arvo for a forum upgrade. As soon as the upgrade is finished, possibly overnight or Tues morning, the site will be back online but there could be some things need fixing tomorrow.

There's more info on the Feedback board and it would be appreciated if any gremlins after the upgrade are reported there for us to look into.

Hope you all don't have to actually do some work this arvo. :o :rofl

Will we notice much difference with the upgraded forum Rosy? New functionality, look and feel etc? Or is it just a maintenance upgrade?

You shouldn't notice much difference RR but the admins will.  It's more behind the scenes stuff keeping up to date with the programmers efforts to make SMF functional, fast and user-friendly and keeping the software up to the latest stable version, so that any enhancements don't need to be reverse engineered to cater for an older version.

Eventually, the older versions cease to be supported, so we have decided to 'go with the flow' and do a major upgrade so that future upgrades will be more or less trivial.

I'm not even sure of new functions for users but anything public will probably be minimal.  We do regular upgrades throughout the year but this one involves the whole database and is a very big job.

There's a message on the Feedback board in regard to signatures which may need fixing.

Change of plans- Because of concerns of pressure the upgrade could put on the server the time has been re-scheduled to begin mid Sunday morning now.

Why don't you do what the AFL (seem) to do each year and do a massive redesign just before the main season starts - that way you get to annoy as many people as humanly possible (which has to be the AFL's motive, otherwise they would re-do their site at this time.........)?
