Well, it seems that my idea of last year, to join a TAC team up with a VFL team grew legs over the summer, with thanks to Leon Harris.
However, the stumbling point seems to be the VFL administration. They seem to still want to be big fish in a small pond. They want to get their hands on the Football Victoria money, but don't want to give up their prestige.
That's what I've been told anyway.
Whichever way it goes, unless the best TAC players can get a run in the VFL, Victorian juniors will remain behind the 8ball come draft time again.
I still reckon that AFL clubs should have a real senior list of 38, plus a rookie/supplementary list of 10.
Clubs should go into the National Draft with 35 players on their list, before rookie elevations.
The National Draft should see entry of junior players onto a rookie list only.
Then, after the ND & Preseason drafts, each club can have an option of elevating 3 off the rookie list onto the senior list, including juniors just drafted.
This can be followed by a secondary rookie draft to top the rookie lists back up to 10 juniors each.
It's an idea, anyway.
