First of all, Wallace, Royal, King and Rawlings must go. But further to that, the coaching department needs to be restructured. I would love it if we appointed a "Director of Coaching" type role... similar to what Collingwood offered Rodney Eade 5 years ago. This person would oversee the whole coaching department, sign off on game plans, and to generally be a father figure to all the other coaches. The most obvious choice for this type of position would be one of the more old school type coaches in Matthews, Sheedy or Malthouse.
As for head coach I would prefer to see someone a bit younger be appointed... someone more recently out of the game, who has more modern ideas with a philosophy for hardness at the ball and applying defensive pressure. The most obvious choice appears to be Damian Hardwick.
For assistants I would grab a newly sacked/fairly experienced coach as the assistant head coach (Dean Laidley or Mark Harvey). I'd consider keeping Campbell for a potential succession plan (midfield coach), and Craig McCrae is seems to be highly regarded (forward coach). The last position should be appointed by the new head coach... someone who has similar coaching philosophies and will help implement the new game plane with a bigger emphasis on defensive pressure (defensive coach).
As for Coburg coach, I would look at poaching someone who has a lot of experience at state level. ie. Gerald Fitzgerald, Brad Gotch or Peter German.
opinions all?
