PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

On the back of Terry's tuesday where he talks about the fact that somewhere in alot of supporters minds people want thier team to lose just to get more draft picks etc. : I got to thinking ...what can be done to change this whole tanking situation. I dont believe money is the right way to go because that would put a bigger gap financially between teams like Adeliade and Carlton. My idea is something like this.

Each team from 9th down recieves a priority pick. Now the higher you finish the better your priority pick is going to be. Therefore Essendon finish bottom off the ladder and get priority pick 8 while Geelong (or god forbid Richmond again) finish 9th and get priority pick 1. Now my problem is deciding whether this priority picks should be 2nd or 3rd round. Then it hit me .... these priority picks can be used for a ready made mature age rookie. So Geelong can get first pick and pick up Podsiadly or Richmond can get some other late bloomer.

A priority pick might not be as good as Pick 1 in the national draft but it gives teams like Richmond and Geelong something to play for rather than secretly hoping thier team loses the following week.

What do you guys think of this idea? Anyone else have any ideas?
