Why I’m more optimistic about RFC now more than ever;
List as is roughly stands now - games played first, then age.
B Mcguane (11,20) Thursfield (17,21) King (14, 23) - (Mcguane most doubtful but should turn into a solid defenderl)
HB Newman (103, 25) Polak (72,23) Delidio (44, 20) - All three are great players and will be future leadership material
C Raines (18,21) Tuck (26,64) J Bowden (213, 29) - (Tuck may be trade bait if Coughlan makes it back)
HF Edwards (11,19) Hughes (6, 20) Pettifer (95, 25) - (Hughes most doubtful but could be anything)
F Brown (177, 29), Reiwoldt (4,18) Richardson (32, 251) - (Reiwoldt most doubtful)
R Pattison (17, 21) Foley (27,22) Johnson (180, 29) - All three have made it
Res Connors (1,19, Very good prospect) Schulz (47,22, possibly trade bait) Tivendale (123, 28, finished/traded) Simmonds (119, 29, good player for 4 more years) Tambling (39,21, jury’s out - could just be a solid player) Hyde (73,25, love his endevour but may only survive another year or two) Howatt (13, 22, useful, adds to depth)
Others who will play in future or come back from injury;
Coughlan (83, 25) - Gun
Polo (25,21) - Solid player (only doubt over shoulder)
White (17, 20) - Solid player
Graham (0, 20 - to debut this week) - Solid player
Casserly (0, 20 - to debut this week) - Solid player (could be a gun)
Meyer (17, 21) - doubts (could be traded to SA at years end)
Jackson (33, 21) - Solid player
Kelvin Moore (23, 23) - doubts
Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls (7, 19) - Solid player
In doubt and/or to be traded/delisted at years end - replaced by at least 6 more draftees and 1-2 mature players (preseason draft at min cost)
Krakouer
P. Bowden
Hall
Hartigan - trade
*smile* (retired)
Kingsley
Knobel
This leaves
21 Players 22 or under (6 Doubtful)
8 Players 23-28 (3 Doubtful)
5 Players 28+ (excludes 7 above that are gone)
With 7 more players to join at the end of the year - our list in 2-3 years will have at least 15 (could be up to 20) in the 23-28 bracket with a further 12-14 in the under 22 bracket and 5-7 players (depending on retirements / delisting) in the 28+ bracket.
In 2 years (09) my prediction is with Richo, Bowden, Johnson, Simmonds and Brown in their twighlight and the current good youngsters with another 20-40 games under the belt we should challenge for finals for a small window - then these players will retire and we should drop back a little until the next group of seniors (much larger number) rise to the challenge.
Also - we will have a top 2 / 17 pick this year and possibly a prority pick as well as top 10 pick next year dependant on where we finish and not winning more than 7-8 games to add to this young list - plenty of reason to be optimistic…
