Hello

Please find below the link to the latest Richmond History YouTube Doco I have uploaded.
This one is regarding the late Mr Jack O'Rourke- who played for Richmond in the late 1940's - 1950's.

Should the link above fail to work, you can also view the Doco on my Richmond site www.rhettrospective.com

Rhett Bartlett.

Great stuff Rhett. Are you planning to do a number of these? I hope so.

I remember when I was a young kid reading a copy of Football Life (a great magazine) and turned a page to be confronted with that fantastic mark of O'Rourke's. However my Dad had read the magazine before me and written "Lair" on the photo. I asked him why he called him a liar and said "not liar, lair! He was a lair, a showy player, went for speccys and flashy goals but was a bit inconsistent as a result." Even at that age I felt affronted that someone, even my Dad would criticise a Tiger and call him a liar! A lair I could handle.

An early spelling lesson and another player story to add to my list handed down by my great old man.

What a great insight. A really lovely story.
He certainly seemed (O'Rourke tht is) to have left an indelible mark on peoples minds in the 50's.
He was really our only goalkicker in the first 3 years of the 50's- and era that did not give us much success.

As for the mini docos- they are simply just rough drafts- nothing official- but im trying to work through a few ideas to possible create some sort of documentary in the future. In the meantime I will just play around with some of the stories and concepts.

Great work Rhett.

Geez, I'm old - I remember watching Jack playing for Burnley. He took spectacular marks like the one illustrated every game.

Love the cameos, Rhett.

Eye witness, hey, Cutter?

Gold.

Thanks Rhett. Like you I had a Dad who talked about Jack O'Rourke. It was great to read about him.

I also enjoyed the cutting of the Richmond team out of the old footy Record. Brought back memories of Ray Poulter, Geoff Spring and of course Des Rowe.

Yes Jack, I was there and loved every minute !

Don't start me on "Jersey Joe" ! Could Poulter mark and kick - he had ENORMOUS hands.

Show my age again - remember him playing against Eaglehawk (Bendigo League), about 1958/59. Joe was captain/coach of Castlemaine. The 'Maine were 9 goals 3 points down at 3/4 time and a Borough supporter told me Castlemaine "were gone". Castlemaine kicked 10 goals 1 point and won the match. Joe kicked 10 goals that day.

Grand Final same year - Joe had kicked 27 goals in the 3 weeks leading to the GF - he kicked 5 goals to half-time, injured his knee - went off and the 'Maine lost to Rochester by 5 points.

There is an advantage to being old - "you have good memories"

Keep 'em coming Cutterst.
:clap

Bloody bonzer Rhett. Its terrific learning more of our old heroes and the men who made our club.
I look forward to the next installment.
