RFC Players Who Could Break Into a 2006 Top Four Side

One of the things I am most interested in from year to year is how many of our players are capable of breaking into one of the previous year's top four or top three sides.  In saying this I am not talking about "potential" they have to have the performances on the board.  For mine only the following make the grade:
Stafford Simmo
Bowden J
Richo
Brown (I had to go back to 2005 form but he is a champion player)
Johnson

Pettifer is knocking on the door - his first half of last year's season was easily good enough but his second half wasn't.  Raines also was worth a look for a back pocket possie but he's not there yet.  His hiding from the WC youngster LeCras being a case in point.  Cogs played two games last year at the right standard - right before he did his knee.  Really can't think of anyone else who could walk into the best 22 of the top four sides.  Lids would get games but only because the sides would be looking to develop him not because he is good enough to demand a place yet.

I wonder if next year we will be able to add to our list?

Sure did :duh. Staffs best qualities in his latter days were his elbows and knees - they were first class and an asset to any top four side. ;D

(Will now modify to minimise further embarassment) :duhman

This is a great question.

I reckon Simmo is the walk up for all four based on last year.
Richo yep, no problems.
Bowden all sides need a QB type.
Brown at his best but not right now but it time this will change.
Lids would. He would be a better player in a better side like most guys but with pace, flair and skills to burn I reckon he would.
From there it is pretty much bordeline at best.
Raines, maybe, maybe not. Very close.

By the end of the year maybe Foley and Tambling push into that group but right now they do no get the nod.

I think that we are being very harsh.  Have a look at the semi final teams, I would be surprised if we couldn't get 8+ players into each.   I think that we are just looking at who are the stars at Richmond.  Every team has a group of battlers.

I agree Max amazing how people rate a guy who has played 15 games better then someone who has 150+ games ,but has played for a poor side ,lot of good footballers who didnt play finals last year

OK, tell me who the Richmond guys would repalce. Add which guys wouldn't get a game in the current Richmond side.

Personally think both sides would get a game for the Tiges.

Very hard to match up players but im sure RIcho,Browny,Sugar,Simo,Tuck,Cogs,Lids,Bowden,Petts would probally be in any lists best 22

But swapping players to make the 2 best sides better ones
Buchannan-Bowden
Fosdike-Tuck
Mathews_Sugar
Doyle-Simo
Mcveigh-Lids
Schneider-Brown

Armstrong-Brown
Banfield-Tuck
Braun-Bowden
Lynch-Richo
Seaby-Simo
Selwood-Sugar
Waters-Cogs

i'd say at least 10 players. our best 10 would be better than just about all teams bottom 10.

remember torney? he was never that good for us, we traded him for basically nothing yet he gets a game at adelaide no worries

Greg Tivendale would get a game for any team in the competition easily.

His best is brilliant but his mistakes stopped him from being the player Richmond supporters all wanted him to be. He'd get a game with WC no worries.

Surely you jest. Torney was the only thing that looked remotely like a small back at Richmond in the last 10 years until the arrival of Raines. He played over 20 games in each of his last three years at the tiges, would have been in the first 10 picked each week. He then went to Adelaide held his spot for one season and has sinced struggled for a regular spot for whatever reason.

i'll admit that torney wasn't that bad, he's been struggling more at Adelaide of late due to injury rather than form though.

what about newman anyway, the bloke who's just been added to our leadership group and has represented australia...

i'd like to think he remotely looks like a small back
