Wallace said that Richmond would be the last club he would ever coach.

I'm just wondering whether or not he checked out the stats before making that claim.

Since Tony Jewell, who ended up coaching the Saints, we've had ten coaches, only one of whom has coached again.

The list:

27 Francis Bourke 46 26 0 20 56.52 1982-83
28 Mike Patterson 22 10 0 12 45.45 1984
29 Paul Sproule 22 9 0 13 40.91 1985
30 Kevin Bartlett 88 27 0 61 30.68 1988-91
31 Allan Jeans 22 5 0 17 22.73 1992
32 John Northey 67 32 1 34 48.51 1993-95
33 Robert Walls 39 17 0 22 43.59 1996-97
34 Jeff Gieschen 49 25 0 24 51.02 1997-99
35 Danny Frawley 113 45 0 68 39.82 2000-04
36 Terry Wallace 88 35 2 51 40.91 2005-09

Only John Northey has escaped the RFC den with even a skerrick of coaching reputation.

Not as bad as the rest. I just lumped him into the failed past coaches basket. I'm sure all of the post coaches would have loved his win/loss ratio.

The reason why most of these coaches never got another gig is because they cant coach

I think if you had a mind it would be equally interesting to see how many RFC Assistant Coaches go on to fame and glory. Not many would be my bet.

Only Sheedy has become a senior coach? Though Lyon was an assistant of some kind ?

Francis Bourke. Interesting.

At the time he was dumped the common understanding was that he had “lost the players”.......was too hard on them...... blah blah blah. I think even Dale Weightman refers to such things in his book.

Did the culture of soft, whinging player activism that appears to be so ingrained today get its birth back in 1983 ?

Seems that way.

Good question. I certainly believe it goes back further than the last 10 years.

Good points here I think we need to name the era. 83-09 "The we know better" era.

I still cannot belive that the current crop of underachievers think that they are beyond a serve.

Agree with this 100% Scoop. It is staggering that the peahearted softo bunch of chronic underachievers, the champions of failure and mediocrity, that is the RFC playing list would even have the temerity to take such an attitude. Who the *smile* do they think they are?? The Brisbane Lions from 2001-2004?? Current day Geelong??? Maybe if they had achieved a modicum of success, such as play in a final series every now and then, in their pathetic careers then they might have grounds for complaint. As it stands they have nothing. Most of them are lucky they have AFL careers and the easy money that comes with it. How many times have they failed in big games with big expectations (like round 1 this year)? How many times have they been in strong positions to win and completely thrown games away with poor skills and stupid decisions (like Port on Sunday)?

No doubt Wallace must take a large share of the blame for the current situation and he will pay the piper some time this year. It is the height of irony that the fact that he has not been tough enough on the playing list will prove a telling factor in his downfall and these same players are now trying to knife him.

The playing list needs an enema; hopefully the new coach will supply it in no uncertain terms. It's about time the bloody dog wagged the tail. I'm glad March told them to stick their complaints where they belong.
