Rhan Hooper walks out on Lions

Got a feeling it may happen a bit more often in future years.
The rewards for those that make it are fantastic, but the workload, scrutiny, and disruption to the normal lifestyle of 18/19 year old kids will make some of them just pack up the kitbag and rejoin the normal masses.

Shame, this young man had immense skill and speed.

He lloked like the second coming of Aaron Davey.

Hope the young man sorts out his problems and gets back on the paddock.

He is a discrace!!

How can u loose passion so early in your career??
There are all those players who work so hard and don't get an opportunity, then a bloke gives up cause he doesn't like training.

Pathetic.

Its very easy for some players to lose the desire to play AFL.

Being an AFL footballer, you are basically signing your privacy rights away. The media is also in your face, people bother them in public and some players get homesick. Some kids have a long way to travel from home to their new club.

I knew an ALF footballer whom didnt like all the publicity and said you couldnt go out the street without strangers coming up and chatting. If you go out, you'd get the idiot who'd yell abuse at you. Go out for dinner and have people coming up to chat.

There is a time and place to go up and chat to the footballers and time people should respect there privacy.

I remember going to dinner one night and Matthew Richardson was sitting at the next table. I really felt sorry for him cos I lost count how many people went up and said hi Richo and asked for an autograph. richo didnt complaint and signed away. But I thought it was wrong. I didnt bother asking for an autograph that night. I waited until I could go to a training session and got it their.

I'd hate to be an AFL footballer as you dont have any privacy and everyone wants to know you and what you're doing.

I do remember seeing this kid, looked to have plenty of talent.Real shame but plenty of time for him to change his mind.

Looks like there are BIG PROBLEMS up in brisbane! At this rate they might just pull their whole team out as their heart isn't in it! They have wooden spoon written all over them! Leigh Matthews for 1st coach sacked this year!

Yep.

Agreed Yhere is something very major happening at that club. They keep it all inside until the players want out.

Its more than a culture thing I think. Was Aker the first to realise and now the others are seeing a little of what he did.

hard days ahead for the Lions - Watch their fans desert the club in droves as well.

What with a new NRL team in the Titans as a novelty, Premiership side in the Broncs and the Cowboys to kick on in 07 i also believe the Lions wont be pulling crowds like they did in the recent past, no rocket science required there tho. Watch the crowds plummet faster than a wrought iron hang glider and you'll hear the deafening silence re a second side in Brisneyland. 8)

Spot on Craig

The Age says the Lions are looking at getting him on to the long term injury list. That keeps the club and Hoopers options open for this season.

That is a bit harsh Jukes, you do not know the circumstances behind him leaving Brisbane. I don't believe that people should make negative statements about someone unless they know the facts. Though you are entitled to your opinion sometimes you need to walk a mile in someones shoes before you comment.

Thanks for the info, Skip.

Personally I don't see what all the fuss is about. Just another small forward. No loss.

Wonder what kind of injury they will claim he has.
Didn't they already get special treatment off the AFL in allowing Vossy to retire last year but stay on the 07 playing list so that his big back ended contract could be payed this year and not be included in last years cap.
I thought the whole idea of including a players final payouts into the year he retired was exactly to stop this kind of salary cap rorting.

The voss thing might have been compo for the Michael debacle. The whole thing stinks. The Lions crowds will drop off, but they have built up a reasonable hard-core that North would be rapt with.
