RICH V CARL - GAME THREAD

Yeah the fwd line is Rubbish ToO. The setup, or lack of, is a joke. We need a guy like Hughes to have a run. I dont care if he has 5 touches - if he kicks 2 or 3. At least you know the kid can kick at the sticks. Jack has a lot of upside, but dont go round sayin you want to be the guy in the big moments if you cant even slot them from 35m out. Geez. There is absolutely no defensive pressure in the fwd 50 whatsoever....no crumbers...just no system at all.

That's probably the worst season opener I can recall for a team positioning itself for the eight. A dozen or so goals conceded from turnovers is truly astounding(ly bad). What makes it worse is that I don't think Carlton were necessarily that good either, butchering a fair bit of the ball themselves under little pressure (another problem in itself). The fact that Richmond's miserable passing couldn't help but make them look clinically efficient is a major concern, as are the next few games on the fixture. Whatever leadership there is at the club needs to step up to prevent the season getting completely derailed early.

From an outsiders point of view, and I watched the entire game from home, it must be said...these are my thoughts.

Richmond were let down terribly by their older players. The payers that they should be able to turn to when a spark is needed. Bowden, Brown, Simmonds, McMahon, Tuck (Richo tried hard, but had an ordinary game)....all of these players have enough experience to draw on and should know how important it is to set the standard.
The sort of hype that has surrounded last nights game should've been backed up by senior players actually wanting to do their part, but I canlt help but think that some of them may have actually believed the Cousins hype and thought that they could just go thru the motions and let him lead them to glory.

Morton, to me, was your one stand out player who looked like he actually wanted to be there.

The ball was taken out of the Richmond forward line with ease too many times.

Tambling, Deledio and Foley were pretty disappointing. Deledio was uncharacteristic with poor disposal and decision making. Tambling was involved in a few incidents where he actually wanted the ball, but too many times he is left jogging about looking lost while the play continues around him. Foley just kept turning it over.

I'm not sure it could be any worse for you guys, but then I see you have Geelong next, so you'd be hoping they belt us tonight and take it easy next week.

Sooner or later Wallace has to be shown the door. You guys have put up with his car salesman antics for far too long. He was even commenting on the lsit he inherited as late as 7pm last night on SEN, and I note that after the game he was making comments like "There are some things there that need to be addressed, and the playing group need to address them", "everything that could have possibly gone wrong went wrong" and "[The players] need to speak to each other about what you need to do to recover from that sort of performance".
It's time for Wallet to take responsibility for the teams performance.

And thanks for letting Carlton think they are kings of the world. You owe the comp a big apology for that too. ;)

After witnessing the last half against Collingwood in the "practice match" a few weeks ago last night was not that surprising.

The same lack of interest, defensive pressure, and no forward line re-surfaced again with interest.

What was really disturbing though was how much more output Carlton was getting from their recent 1st Round Draft Picks (Kruezer, Murphy & Gibbs) compared to our first rounders in Deledio (I remeber one of the knocks on him as a junior was he would drift in and out of games, has anything really changed?), Tambling (there is a thread dedicated to him) & Riewoldt (though if he kicked straight would have earned a pass mark last night).

Forget about the humiliating loss. This is the real indictment on RFC - we just cannot pick and develop players.

The forward line had me a little flummoxed as to the setup. Richo appeared to spend a fair bit of time up front. Why??
but still you're spot on 8ty Sarge was as non event again. Not good enough to exert an influence even if the mids are beaten.

Watching the game on the box gives a limited experience but it astounded me last night how often our mids looked up and appeared to have no options up forward. Fundamentally Richo's workrate is legendary. our other young forwards ain't learning yet.

I have to say though thta whilst Sarge was poor Jack was worse. :help

??? Jack had a crack, just kicked for goal poorly. The kid can play and liked his presenting.

Richo needs to be played forward only. Forget the end to end running and leave him as our main target. Richo at FF, Jack at CHF. Leave them there for the year.

Schulz - pffft, meh, and whatever else it is most posters say

Fair summation scabby. And apologies for getting the Blues fans more arrogant than they were, but look on the brightside, it'll be fun to see them topple back to their rightful place, which this season should be out of the 8 and aboce us.

What I wouldn't have done to have had a player like Hodge in our backline last night.

86,000 crowd and all the media hype and they served up that sh!t.

Wallace should get the sack immediately just for that.

I realise i may be bagged beyond comprehension for this, but i truly believe we were missing 1 very important person out there last night.
Mr Kane Johnson !!

He plays for the jumper.
He plays for the team.
He provides direction.
He provides stability.
He provides leadership.

Quite ironic these things happen when he's not in the side.

He may not have the best skills, confidence, or awareness but he does have leadership qualities that the rest of the playing group can call on when in need.
I sincerely hope that our current number 17 can develop his leadership skills a little further.
