RICH V DOGS - GAME THREAD

Thought Rance showed a bit today. Probably the only shining light.

His defending and rebounding were good but he turned it over at a fantastic clip.

His second game of AFL and considering the fact his teammates were acting like witches hats, I can forgive the turnovers at this point in time.

Yeah definitely not hanging him out to dry but if there's a knock on him it's always been his kicking (surprise, surprise) so I think we'll all be hoping he doesn't have too many repeats of his game yesterday.

Nah, McGuane to me could be our version of true stopper (think Scarlett, Lake, Presti etc - low disposals but plenty of spoils) whereas Rance looks like developing into more of the Sam Fisher, true rebounding tall defender who collects a lot of touches through their run off the half back line. I think the focus on disposal for this type of player is obviously far greater.

McGuane a true stopper at his weight??

Yep, he's a great mark of the footy. Aside from Richo and possibly Deledio he's the only player in our team that can take a contested mark.

From what we've seen so far, Moore comes across as a way better 'stopper' than McGuane.

If McGuane learnt to kick straight (thanks again Wallace & co.), he should've been developed as a FF because of his flying mark abilities. This is how he started when he was recruited.

They've both had turns on the opposition's main forward over the last season and a bit. When one's getting beaten they swap places. Their record on the league's big forwards is very good.

You questioned McGuane as a true stopper at his weight. Moore is shorter and no heavier.

Stats on RFC website show McGuane at 86kg and Moore at 84kg. The way we see McGuane get shoved out of the way more often than Moore ever has in the last 2 years, it seems that McGuane's skinny body must be an illusion then.

Man on man, I've seen Moore do way better than McGuane has.

Yet McGuane is top 10 in the league for marks and contested marks. If McGuane is getting pushed out of the way so easily why aren't his opponents regularly kicking big bags against him?

Same question for Moore. I just see McGuane get 'outmarked' more often than Moore.

I noticed on footywire.com.au stats that he's ranked at 7th in total marks, but how many players are on this list anyway in today's style of play?

Footywire also shows weight at 76kg?? Where's the truth?

Footywire obviously doesn't update their records very regularly.

The fact is neither of them get pushed aside that easily because if they did Richmond's record against power forwards would be abysmal, not very good.

The best advertisement you can have for both Luke and Moore is by looking at when was the last time Richmond lost a game because we got monstered by tall forwards?

For McGuane, the Footywire stats show 7th in total marks & Pro-stats shows 9th in total marks.

Just proves how misleading stats can be.

It a good point

When was the last time we had a forward (other than a small forward) Kick a Bag of goals against us?
