Just been watching this game on foxtel. I cannot remember seeing so much heavy rain at a game. Who else remembers being at the match?? We played some good footy in atrocious conditions. Gees I miss Flemo. He was awesome that day.

One of my favourite games ever. Sat out in the rain all day and loved every minute of it.

That was the day the big Staff was lining up for gaol, big Sandilands was on the mark,Staff was in the forward pocket,Staff dicides to play on around Sandilands, not one of Staffs best moves he and Sandilands come crashing down, the incident looked like it was in slow mo,one of the funnist things I have seen on a footy field

Flemo... don't judge a book by it's cover!
In saying that, I will never dispute that he always had a dip.

That was because skills went out the window in that game. He was a bullock sure, but a very limited footballer.
I don't miss him one iota.
In fact when Wallace got rid of him I truly felt we might be finally going forward as a club.

Me too Rosy. It was one of the best games as far as atmosphere goes, it was almost eerie. Plus we won :clap

True.  Ask yourself this.  Who would you prefer on the list.  Flem or that man Tuck.  Thats what the decision came down too.  Think Terry chose very wisely somehow.

True Gustiger. But Im sure that Flemo had that special something, and a heart bigger than Phar Laps. Shouldve delisted Tivendale before Flemo.

Remember this game well. Everyone knew the storm was on the way, it was just a matter of when. It was crucial to hold the lead when the rain came and then we played some good wet-weather footy. Fleming's goal was right in front of us. It was Campbell's 250th too. Could barely see Houlihan kick his last quarter goal in the dim.

Very interesting to watch the replay and hear what TW had to say about the tigers at the time. I watched the first quarter and he made the comment when Fiora kicked a goal, and Frawley dragged him immediately afterwards, that when he was at the bulldogs they had a rule that stated when a player who was about to be dragged kicked a goal they would keep him on for another 5-10 mins.

Seems like common sense, but apparently not for Danny.

I noticed that TW made 2 interesting comments:

1. "I like the look of that Pettifer as he should be able to develop into an important player in the future......" (that's why he persevered with him in the seniors all this season)

2. "Campbell just shows what a great, important leader he is to the RFC............." (that's why he desperately wanted Cambo to play on in 2006)

......and I noticed how good Simmo was for Freo in the ruck, which means that he must definately be our new no1 ruckman now.

I must admit that with our team 40 points up, Frawley still made me laugh with his 'telephone antics' in the coaches box yelling like a maniac as if we were in the dying seconds of a close game. :rofl :rofl :rofl

Agree with you there. Was good to be there and would not sit anywere else but level1. But hey if only we had more games like that ;D

Got back under cover in the Olympic Stand that day - just before the storm hit.

Rodan was fantastic once the ground was a puddle.

I remember being at this game too, and Freo had Sandilands playing (at the time was the tallest player in the league i think). It was hilarious watching this guy playing in the slop, he was useless. Rodan, Fleming and co ran wild. Fantastic game.

I liked the game, hard, tough, very wet.

I got the game on DVD and that was before they went to the double disks and it must have been in low resolution because the rain is all pixelated... (sp?) :P

Sorry for my belated response, but I watched this game stunned at what our stocks consisted of.

Isn't it amazing what 3 years of a professional football department does.

Since 2003 we've scraped alot of *smile*.

flemmo was great///I'm a flemmo fan...unlucky player as he would have benefitted from wallace rather than Frawley and brittain
