Yes, GO agree, that's exactly the type of player we need if we're to become a top team and more than one of them because Port has one and it's clear that that's not enough.
But Kane Cornes was not in 2004 the player that he is now. He was a kid learning the caper by tagging for a living. And that's their premiership year and my point.

Wallet probably agrees with you. I don't. All that matters is that you beat your opponent IMO. If that's lockdown well I'm one of the few footy fans who loves that stuff. If there's a player who can guarantee to shut Chris Judd down is there one coach in the AFL who wouldn't select him?

Johnson, Jackson, Hyde etc is too many imo
The more you have the tighter the game. It's playing tight that leads to a lockdown, ten goals beats nine sorta thing.
Jackson wasn't tagging on Satdee night was he, Ir? He was impacting. Unfortunately. ;D
The blokes with defensive jobs were Tuck, Hyde and probably Edwards (sorry I can't recall his opponent/game).
Tuck flogged Hayes until the last quarter when Hayes came into it. Shame. We can argue whether it was Tuck not kicking a goal of Tuck losing a couple of battles that was the bigger problem.
But my take overall is that our defensive mids did very well on the night and were not the problem. And my view is that defensive mids are gold. Chiefly because they add to the depth of a mid roster without the need for class.
