biggest rort is guys from afl family backgrounds, how the hell is daniel riolis young brother tied to essendon, hes bloody from football royalty stock, also blakey at the swans, absolute hog wash that champion ex players sons are tied to a academy, should be father son only.

To be fair, Daniel's father is Dean Rioli's brother.

We should never have let any Rioli's slip through the net but we were too disorganised for this to happen.

But I take your point re the Blakey situation. He should only have been available to the father-son clubs. This one has set a dangerous precedent. In Blakey's case, he has been a long-term assistant coach at Sydney so his job is clearly legit but what is to stop a Northern club identifying a potential 14 year-old superstar and giving his AFL-retired Dad a job as a development coach for a few years so they can include him in the Academy?

Exactly, TOT, it has to be one or the other and nothing should be allowed to over-ride father/son. Otherwise it may as well be abolished for ... a rorts system. Would lead to recruiting free-for-all and ultimately, chaos, with wealth or dirty deals the only determining factor.

Reminds me of Scully's father getting appointed to a highly-paid job in the GWS recruiting department, just after Tom signed to dump the Dees.

[Curious now. Is he still there, now Tom's gone to the Dawks?]

The son of a gun needs to nominate his father's old club otherwise the player is included in the main draft and also any academies he may qualify for.

It is not a rigid requirement that a potential father son play for his/her old man's club

Have watched Will Dwyer a few times for Caulfield Grammar.

Easiest comparison is Dan Connorsi in terms of skill, ability and size. Is a really nice left footer but has an acceptable right foot. Good mark and tackles:hits hard.

Athletic wise he is a good mover over first 15m and agility wise. Great in traffic. Endurance looks to be average at best and his body shape is of a suburban footballer. Would need to knuckle down with a serious S&C program over next 12 months.

If he can sort out his fitness and keep developing his footy he would be a great draft prospect under NGA.

Cowley Mackenzie sounds a likely NGA future prospect.

Playing footy against the men at 14 is awesome also playing representative Cricket indicates a “natural” sporting talent.

Has anybody got an update on the lad?

At CGS in yr10 with my son who says he’s not quick but extremely strong. He’s also a terrific kid apparently.
Funny that until I mentioned him, my son didn’t know Macca was indigenous

By god nga is turning into a rort, so many long time ago footy family kids in nga,you have guys like Daniel riolis brother to essendon, tiger premiership player Michael greens grandson at gws,and many more, how is 100 percent AFL background kids allowed to be nga, didn't think this was the purpose, was to be basically for under privileged kids of non AFL background in your alloted area.

It's an AFL system. Footy clubs are great at rorting AFL systems. It also helps that most AFL systems are about as functional as tits on a bull.

Tiger's have no NGA candidates named named in ALL Australian under 17 squad of 48 players, (eligible for draft 2020), Bulldogs have a potential top 3 priority & Brisbane very well placed with their Academy prospects  .

Also mentioned Father Sons for 2020 an no mention of MRJ, looks like his stocks have fallen to right off the radar?

Ethan Baxter, (who is tied to Richmond), didn't make the under-17s All Stars squad, but is still highly rated by recruiters.

Here is article by Callum Twomey on AFL.com.au with a list and saying that 2020 could be the most compromised draft ever?

So is this addition to what MacKenzie Cowley did in 2018 or are you referring to below Sept 2018 article?

The under 14 Samoan kid, Manny Laulu, is the one that excites me a long way out. He featured on RFC website in May and I just googled to see how he went this year and he won the Shepparton District Football League"s 2019 Owen Power Medal Under 14's.
Looks a decent size kid for his age, what's not to like, "raw power and enormous leap", being Samoan sure to be a BIG Bodied midfielder ;)

Kicked 40 goals in 15 games this year at an average of 2.67 a game, (surely that must have been as a forward and not midfield?)
