Richmond/Coburg lineups 2008 (no injuries)

Interesting that you're Richo's pres but you have him on the bench!
Go on, put back on the park.
If Richmond is to get most out of 08, we need to use the season, to try and sort out the careers of Hughes, Pattison and Schulz and give Deledio a principal role in the forward line.

If we are to get the most out of my man Richo, he needs at 31, to spend a good deal of time on the bench and perhaps play the last 5 mins of each qr in the first half and maybe the last 15 mins of qr 3 and 4.

Love to see him go on and play in a grand final and maybe join the immortals, Bartlett, Bourke and Dyer at 300 plus. If we can keep him fit and get him to a preseason in 2010, we may just see him achieve both objectives.

Richo's 33 at the start of next season.

Fair point, but I wasn't talking about turning the half back flankers into midfielders when I mentioned flexibility. More about other positional roles or specific roles for specific games. It would be great to have enough genuine midfielders to throw onto half back lines but that's not a practicality for most teams. Out of interest who might you have picked up in trade week that was available that might have wanted to come to the Tigers?
other than morton and mcmahon i dont know if anyone wanted to come to he tiges. my attitude to trade week and the psd was we needed to get an experienced ruckman and a kpd without trading away our early picks.

i wanted 2 of the young ruckmen that went in the nd psd rookie draft. we got putt. renton or sullivan would have been nice as well.
knowing any young ruckman we took would be in development for 3 or 5 yrs it was imperative to get a ruckman ready to go to help simmonds.we failed in this
even though we took cartledge who ended up a rookie so we are waiting on injury for him to help and theres as many question marks over him as there are on putt.. personally i thought cartledge well worth taking a punt on.

what i dont get is knowing there wasnt going to be much about for the psd we still took mcmahon with pick 19. if we had a good mature player targeted in the psd lets say hypothetically they wanted welsh i could understand doing a trade for mcmahon, but there was clearly not going to be any decent players in the psd so why not take mcmahon there with the no1 pick.
ive been saying i was expecting a good player in the psd and why wouldnt i expect a good player otherwise why use 19 on mcmahon.

now if we had kept pick 19

For years i've been saying Richmond will only improve when Tivendale does not get a game. I know he can play good games occasionally but the biggest problem with Richmond is not enough blokes who can play on a man and beat their opponent.

I just don't rate McGuane, Moore at the elite level. They are too one dimensional and just can't see them matching up on opposition forwards. Polak is best down back with his marking ability. I rate Polo highly a number of blokes on here don't rate him but he's one of the young guys on our list that can play accountable football and beat his man one on one. He also creates a lot of run and finds space down the wings. I agree with others that Newman should be released to the midfield.

The skill level in this team is a lot higher now with McMahon, Cotchin and even Morton once he gets a game. WE still lack some quality talls though. I did like the way Pattison was attacking the ball last year. He improved a lot last year!

This team was not easy to pick so there is going to be some good competition for spots next year.

So here's the team i think will be our best in 2008

B: King, Thursfield, Raines
HB: Polo, Polak, Bowden
C: Newman, Tuck, McMahon
HF: Pettifer, Pattison, Tambling
F: Brown, Deledio, Richo
R: Simmonds, Coughlan, Foley
Int: Edwards, Connors, Jackson, Riewoldt, Johnson, Cotchin

I'd love to see Rance come straight in.

its amazing how so many people have deledio up forward while our midfield still looks like rubbish, 5 goals against a mediocre pies backline and suddenly he's our next ff/chf ???

very nice size atm which means he is at the stage where he needs to be winning more contested ball in the middle helping foley and trying to get himself into that starting centre square

id like to see jack in more lineups, didnt have the best finish to the season as you would expect from a first yr player but i think he showed in 2 years in the vfl kicking bags he is a class above and the more gametime he gets in the seniors the better, schulz isnt an automatic selection just cause its his last chance he needs to show something in the nab cup or else he can *smile* off and not come back

Why cant you get it through your head Claw that during Trade week[2 weeks after the GF] there is a host of players still out of contract[One of them was Rutten].Tell me this Claw what would you rather.Stitch up Mcmahon during the trade period or taking him in the PSD with our 1st pick knowingly giving carlton 1st dibs at a possible [Rutten].Can imagine your reaction if we did commit to mcmahon in the psd and Rutten fell into carlton,s hands. ::)

I just think Deledio gets cut out of the game too much in the middle. Doesn't seem to be able to beat his tag but up forward with that sprint off a lead he can space any backmen on a lead and we all know how good a kick he is when he actually gets it.

Schulz doesn't even get a mention on the emergencies for me. Lost patience with him completely.

I was also wondering if Brown with a full pre-season could play more through the middle this year. Maybe Brown and Deledio can rotate b/w forward pocket and the middle.

I like Riewoldt too and definitely in the best 22 just not sure who's spot he takes.

Biggest worry is our captain. Will he get a game?

On Lids, he an Bling swapped midfield/forward in 2nd half the year an I think that will continue speaking with TW an I would say Bling will get more of the midfield time

Obviously Claw hasn't read this before Skipper ;)

You can add the words 'more often' if you like.
The fact is we still traded draft picks. And in many's eyes not for needs.

My point was most successful teams draft and trade. You are suggesting we shouldn't trade at all. I think to win the coveted you have to trade when the opportunities arise to bolster your needs. Whether the Tigers traded well this year is another topic all together.

We can probably argue this one for a while but I doubt McMahon would have lasted till the PSD. There was another team interested and the Bulldogs wouldn't have given him away for nothing, they had an offer for him too that they could have upped. I still think we could have got him for a higher draft pick (the Schulz trade) but hindsight is always a wonderful thing.

Funny, though, with all the rumours about where players want to play in the coming season.
Morton, Tambling & Schulz as defenders, Polak as a key forward, McMahon on the ball.

Ahh, the joys of innovative thinking!
I wonder how many of these will work out.
