Is it time to go it alone, like the Cats and Pies

We can draft all the supposed right players till the cows come home.It is developing them into a cohesive group that is the challenge.ATM there is a broken string between what happens at Coburg as opposed to AFL.The gameplans have clearly been different, and I would like to think that Rawlings can alleviate that problem now.Richmond was at its best when they controlled all the teams resis, under 19s etc.I mean we won all divisions twice during those years. It says something about junior development.

absolutely, agree whole heartedly

We don't need a stand alone team to align the game plans. But the fact the Terry's wasn't any good, is probably why Coburg's is not the same

how well will players develop if the are played out of position because we have too many of one type in the same team??

How do you think non-victorian teams go? none of them have stand alone teams. They develop alright considering they don't play together in the one team.

Firstly, the non vic teams are not good examples,as they virtually have the states to themselves.Has not helped Freo though.
IMO if the Richmond football club is going to be force again it needs to start at the bottom.Look at all the successful countryand metro teams and you will find a common thread.Strong teams in all divisions. It is called junior and culture development.

sorry, I'm sure you said they needed to develop in to a cohesive group. some how, non-victorian teams get by with out doing that.

IMO players need to develop in position, not where ever we can fit them in.

I agree our development needs to improve, however I don't see why a stand alone VFL side is needed to make this happen.

Excellent idea to have a stand alone VFL team, perhaps we could use the money we are currently wasting on recruiting scouts and development coaches on setting up the infrastructure for a new team

Yes, being forced to play players out of position will be tremendous for their development.
What does that actually mean?Do you expect coaches to be mindreaders;is there a recipe that suggests if you are 6 foot 27 that being a ruckman is your gig? Or if you are 4 ft nothing but can leap vertically 2 metres in the air from a standing start;that your position is only as a rover?I doubt it.You have missed the point.

I personally like the affiliation and hope that it continues. I don't think the club could afford it and there is also the question about where all the players would go and if Punt Road is big enough. I believe Richmond has one of the better relationships with their team in the VFL.

Would be great ............................... only if it was financially responsible and manageable.

i understand ur meaning but in all honesty couldnt care less about how good the relationship is with coburg i want success at RICHMOND and wanting to develop all of our players in our own 2nds team which i believe is the way to go...

It would possibly be great but too costly for us.

Players not playing in the VFL can be released to play for other local comps like the EFL, WRFL etc.

There is one issue here everyone is forgetting, the VFL have a vested interest in keeping the traditional VFA sides alive. As such, they may put the brakes on new AFL sides to allow the old VFA sides to remain in existence (through their affiliation arrangements).

One of the clinches Essendon is facing in potentially going it alone is determining if the VFL will give the nod to another AFL side having a stand alone.

Bendigo is likely to collapse without Essendon, what financial issues would Coburg face without our affiliation?

These are questions the VFL will be asking when we say we want to go alone, and if they ain't happy, it won't happen.
