on paper the tigers are no less talented than the roos
last year we both had key injuries to big men
they seem to have no money, no supporters and somewhat of a limited future
we have not much more money, heaps of supporters and a guaranteed future

why did we finish last and they finished 4th

they are a group of no fuss, team orientated players that play hard aggressive football to a plan that everyone knows understands and comits to

we are a collection of brilliant but selfish, stats orientated soft co*ks who are more worried obout our hairdos and how we look on camera, who have no idea nor are they concerned about what each other is doing or trying to do..

to see a group of our players in the paper modeling hairdos with our new sponsors product made me sick
guys, get some credability on the field first, we are the laughing stock of the afl
become competitive (you dont even have to win) just be hard and commited, then worry about how good you look

unfortunately, our players are too similar in their traits to our coach, too worried about their appearance and what shows on the outside rather than whats on the inside?

A few brief observations here..

Firstly the coach.
Dean Laidley is an unfashionable, unpredictable mongrel.
I can't help but admire 'The Bible' for what he's got out of that list with his back to the wall. He's surprised me.
He is a guy who's job has been on the line since he started and has been under the blowtorch from many corners at a club who's very future is under question.
He was never guaranteed 5 years and is probably earning a fraction of what Terry is.
No media darling, Laidley has earned the players respect by his willingness to cop criticism and hang tough.
It'll be interesting too see if he can sustain the Roos progress this year.

Also Dyer'ere alluded to it in a post a while back. One thing about the Roos is they have some very big footballers.
Tall, strong bodies that throw their weight around and create room for the mosquito fleet.
Structurally they are much more sound than us because of this.
Alternatively our KPPs are mostly light, immature and under developed in comparison.

They also play with the spirit they are renowned for.
They've been getting more out of that list for years so culturally the 'Shinboner Spirit' must have some genuine effect.
Footballers are proud to play for the Kangaroos and true leaders like Glenn Archer who epitomised their culture make those around them walk taller.
Tiger spirt? Almost non existant these days. :(

They have Harvey, Grant, Simpson, Harris, Wells they can rotate through the middle.

We have Foley.

Case closed in terms of comparing Richmond to Kangaroos.

Don't forget Rawlings who can tag and win clearances and plenty of the footy and young inside types Swallow, Lower and Thomas. Add this to Jesse Smith, a really promising and mobile defender prospect and Lachlan Hansen who is one of, if not the best KPP propsects in the game and I couldn't agree more. Chalk and cheese.

Wells is barely better than Tambling. Harris is barely better than Tuck..........

Wells would have to be one of the bigger draft disappointments in the last few years....he can't seem to get any consistancy in his game.
The big difference for is the belief, The kangaroos believe they can win every game they compete it, Richmond is filled with self-doubting selfish and immature players.

Tango, puting aside the comparison, it sounds like you rate the Roos?
How many games do you think they will win?
And whilst you're at it, tell me how many Tiger wins?

We would kill for a Rawlings type.

Last time we played them the game wasn’t even close, we aren’t in their league at the moment

Completely different styles of footy Roos and Tigers and damn doesn't that suck. The Roos showed last year that they had the capability when playing well to take any side down to their level (eg they beat Geelong once during the Home and Away) , but against us teams score to the level that they play. We can only go so far and then we get absolutely smoked when these sides lift a gear in terms of passing accuracy and/or pressure on the ball carrier.

They play hard with what they've got!
None of this rebuilding *smile*!
Prepared to sacrifice for each other!
Have enormous pride for the guernsey they wear!
Alway's defying the odd's!

Agreed Tuck is as capable as anyone the Roos have as far as getting the ball is concerned although his use of it can be a bit hit and miss. However Wells wins a lot more clearances and disposals in general than Tambling right now.

this shinboner spirit crap still being talked about.
didn`t you watch their 2 finals defeats last year?
they got beat by a total of 193 points in 2 games, where was their shinboner spirit on those 2 occasions?
added to the 85 point drubbing in 2005.
if that was geelong they would be called handbaggers or port would be called chokers.

wallace got the bulldogs into 2 preliminary finals in a row getting paid the same peanuts as laidley is getting now.
and wallace isn`t getting paid much more than laidley anyway,he was signed up when we`d just posted a record loss of $2.4 million.
he got a long contract, not a lucrative yearly contract.
laidley`s done a great job so far,but he`s also had 5 years and inherited a team that still contained a core of premiership players.
wallace inherited the worst team in the comp and has had 3 years.
there`s a big difference.

i do agree with the rest of your post though.

Fair enough. I guess everything's relative to the discussion though mopsy. ;)

RE the roos big losses in the finals the impression I got was that they were trying to play on emotion and ferocity not skill and class. Which means that when they can't get up for the game or aren't allowed mentally to get into it by the opposition then they can get hammered.

Sort of reminiscient of the Northey years for us isn't it? Outstanding spirit (emotional desperation) gets you into the finals but if that is the main thing you are relying on then it won't usually get you over the line and win a flag.

But to quote another thread it can certainly torch soft....s like us. Which North have done with depressing regularity.

thats the point skills, i dont rate the roos (not for skill and talent anyway) but i do admire them
they play hard and tough and give a contest, yes they got smashed in 2 finals at the end of the year, but port got smashed in one also
the fact is the roos did not have the list and skills to get to 4th spot, but list and skills aint everything
they contest everything and play team orientated hard nosed footy

i would rather have a team that played like that, sorry i would rather MY team play like that than play the fancy, lairy uncotested, unnacountable soft crap they dished up friday night

how many wins, not sure, every year there is a cindarella story and a dissapointment.....

the fact is until we change our style we will still get belted

Mmmmm I thought that North got done by the BULLDOGS on the weekend. Last year the doggies were cr@p & the aints weren't.

Lets all remember that it was only a "practice" match, so there is no need to get carried away either if you win or lose.
Also remember that carltank won the nab cup last year & in 2005 & where did they finish in the real season?
