Richmond Game Day "Player Review"

I cannot express how disappointed i was today, whilst driving in i said we win today we stay alive we lose and ill concede the season, killed me to say that but that’s what we would be facing being 1 win and 6 losses with Port at AAMI next week...

Where we finish on the ladder and draft pics etc that’s for another time to dissect but for now ill give my player game review...

Bowden - I tell you Bowden was terrible, his turnovers were Bowden of old, anyone thinks he played a good game is in dream land, look half back flankers if u get the lose ball u get high DT or SC scores we all know that like McMahon does, ryhce shaw etc etc, bowdo if im to give an honesty appraisal he has had a good year and has deserved his spot in the side but in all honesty today he just made the wrong decisions time after time...

Jackson - battled hard and had the most tackles for us but his foot skills continue to let him down is not up to it in terms of decision making, yep wins the hard ball and gives his all so does tuck and we all know where the ball ends up when it’s in his hands...
On Jackson how many times supporters around me just said what the hell was that Jackson a bloody nothing kick but the most venom was directed at Bowden....

Tuck - See above, like Jackson works hard, wins the hard ball but again too many times just plonks the ball onto his boot and hopes for it come off, im actually a fan of tucks ferocity at the contest but have been critical of his ball use...
Well as Terry says on the RFC website...
Our poor ball-use and decision-making has to change if it is to get back on the winners list, and he is set to swing the axe in order to find players who can play at the top level.

Well we know who they’re (players) and it’s been going on for years so ill wait with vetted breath when that occurs, meaning wielding the axe on the so called bad ball users...

Foley who tried valiantly and really did try and take the game on but his ball use today didn’t hurt the opposition like the foley of old in 2007....i dont know in 2007 he would put that ball under his arm and just run "forward" and also kick his great running goals but today he was running around in circles, almost confusing himself...Let himself down too with sloppy ball use.

McGuane - i thought he did ok on Bradshaw it was pretty even but on at least 3 occasions McGuanes handballs put his team mates under immediate pressure, handballed to a guy where a lions player was just behind him, just scratching my head in the fact he did it at least 3 times...

Moore - One word terrible, destroyed by J.Brown...someone said Moore was competitive, he was anything but...he was killed and i dont need his dream team score of 34 to confirm that, i witnessed it first hand live...

JR - Had a very quiet day, we know what he can produce and perhaps a step back in Coburg wont do him any harm but he’s a player and at 20 he’s the least of our concerns...the way the fwd line set up was 2day it was a dead set joke no structure whatsoever..

Edwards - Dominant at Coburg but finds it hard in the 1’s for some reason, showed a bit at times but if terry wants him the play this sweeper role off half back he needs to be able to brake tackles and hit the packs hard, must put on 8 to 10 kgs in the next 2 years or im sorry he wont cut it in the role he’s expected to play.

*smile* - took a few good marks but apart from that he just doesn’t work hard enough, twice on the wing he had the chance to attack the ball but waited and both times the ball was cleared, i think he has just stamped his papers, ahh some would say they were already stamped...

White - didn’t have a big game has had an up and down year but id say more up than down....Has a future

JON - U know he really presents at every opportunity, 9 marks and 13 possies but if he is going to play this lead up fwd he needs to also kick some goals...Still only played about a dozen games keep playing him and he could just continue to grow in his role on the fwd line.

Rance - well done mate, courageous and was playing a good game when he went down, was actually giving us some good run in that first qtr and 2nd too....

Nahas - Pocket dynamo, liked his game, very good ball use, i noticed today many of his kicks are well weighted always to the player’s advantage...always chases and harasses.

Collins - continues to improve solid game not as good as last weeks but the kid is still learning the caper and is a definite keeper...

Coghlan - Very good game, not dominant but coming back from a low pre season base gee hard at it and used the ball well, took some very strong overhead contested marks.

Cousins - 22 possessions in 52 mins, only played 13mins a qtr, used the ball well, still not the cuz of old but considering where he’s coming back from he gets a big +, will only take some time to get that running power back, injuries permitting of course.

Newman - Solid game, made a few blews but overall liked his game, some folks in the crowd were questioning his captaincy and whether he’s inspiring the boys to greater heights on the ground, ill leave that as its to early to tell....meaning im thinking its more the coach and the setup and the style of play...

Tambling - very good game, didn’t kick all that straight for goals today as like last week but nonetheless that’s 2 very good game in a row and that’s the standard we want for our pic 4 week in week out...

Ive left the best 3 for last,

Polo - 27 possessions and 6 marks played bloody good football today as he did last week with 23 possies....starting to grow in stature which is pleasing to see and i just scratch my head how he and Collins couldn’t get games last year when others were getting them gift wrapped.

Deledio - what can i say 30 quality disposals, 6 marks and 4 tackles...in that first qtr he really set it up with 8 or 9 possies but its his ball use and decision making to the teams advantage that sets him apart from the rest..

Finally for the best man on the ground,

Graham - 19 possessions, (remember went off for a while too) 8 marks, 6 tackles and 21 hit outs...moved really well which shocked me as i have been critical of him in the past but gee last week he impressed me today i was flawed, he was quite agile, danced around a few opponents in the center and made the right decisions more times than not...well done Gus keep it up.

Good review pretty much spot on.

yeah TTT, mate i wish i could write a glowing piece on all players, sadly on todays efforts its not to be...

I look at the list and i seriously dont think its really bad but then again it aint super good so we have a ways to go my friends in terms of bridging the gap to add to the talent we currently have and their is talent their as we all know, this coming draft we seriosuly need a min 6 to 8 players drafted...

the way we 're playing and it aint about winning the hard ball we are i think No 1 or 2 in the league for contested possessions its what we do with the ball therafter which is killing us, the game plan too does not go hand in hand with the talent we have on the park...

I do not want to cause another furore but I think that the list is not as bad as we are playing.

We are lacking confidence. This has infected our run and skills. If I was TW I would tell them to take risks, back themselves, do not go backwards and sideways, do not handball, run, bounce and kick it long. Hoefully, the quicker delivery inside 50 together with a better forward structure will allow the forwards to shine.

There are a number of players that are showing ability but are not consistently producing their very best each week. Is this recruiting or development? :'(

Looking at both lists on Saturday (Richmond & Lions), I thought that our list looked very competitive. Confidence was definately a problem... after the 1st quarter they stopped running and backing themselves and each other - very disappointing. Made even harder to bear after watching Essendon on Friday night - loved the style of footy they played.

Agree with plenty of that but JON - seriously, he was a disgrace, 5 times I watched him try and deliver a ball inside 50 and each time he not only took the wrong option his delivery was terrible. He has absolutely no idea what to do when he gets it. Sorry, if he ever plays for Richmond again it is a joke. Every Richmond supporter around me at the game was amazed he was kept on the ground.

Agree with the Bowden summary, 2 turnovers in the 2nd quarter were particularly deflating. Terrible 35 possession game.

U mean there was options for JON when he was trying to kick into our forward line.....u r kidding...no-one presented and to blame JON, who was probably the only forward to present all day, is a tad harsh.

Spot on.

JON didn't have any options. Voss massssss flooded the backline.. Our free men on the 50m arc should have manneeeeed up on every loose brisbane player.

Great review and Graham was outstanding on the weekend. Good on him.

The only option for us is to play kids and that means JON. He presents really well and needs to get confidence.

We have to persevere with him as we have no other options on our list for the lead up CHF!

Hughes and Schulz are goners at year's end. Jack needs to play closer to the goals as does Morton. We should introduce Vickery soon to our goal square as a permanent full forward. Post should also be played too.

According to the Hun, TW did tell the players to take risks in the last quarter, but they didn't do it. Unless something happens soon every player on that list will be irreparably damaged.
