Was just wondering what everyone thinks will be Richmonds game plan in '08. From my observations at training, it seems it will be a running game plan where all players will be encouraged to run and carry the ball forward. Play on at all costs. Also to drive the ball through the centre corridor to the fast leading (Deledio) and power forwards (Richo & Polak). I think also players will be told to run back and help the defence as often as possible to close any holes. Looking at the best 22 we have, certain players have a strong running capacity which endears to such a game plan.
For effective results, this plan requires skilled footballers, which is where we have been severly lacking at times. However, looking at our defence with Bowden, McMahon, Morton - all setting up play, I think we are in adequate hands. Football has literally become a game of keepings off, where the idead of the game is to get the ball to your forward line as quickly and accurately as possible.
Having watched Adelaide VS Collingwood last night, the Crows did a fantastic job in a similar style plan. Collingwood were very static when in possession of the ball. A Collingwood player would mark the ball, stop, look around and then pass off to another static player. This got them nowhere.
Will be interesting to see how it all pans out for us starting as of next Friday.
Thoughts in how we will play this year???
