I think I might have too much time on my hands but was wondering how our memberships and attendances this year compared to other years.  I've posted it here in case anyone else is interested.

At least no one can ever say that playing some of our games at the Docklands has been a success for us, if these figures are anything to go by. Apart from our year inflated by our Finals appearences, the average attendances seem to have dropped since the move there.

Puzzling. Our membership rises steadily (ish), but our attendence figures go down.
There's got to be an obvious explanation, but I'm in forest and trees mode today. ::)

As david states it because of our games at the Dome. Would also be associated with the fact that we don't play Collingwood, Carlton and Essendon twice each year and the more home games against interstate teams.

I will be signing up three new little heads this year however.

I expect our membership to reach 30k + for 2006.

Should be alot of barrackers jumping on the band wagon after a much improved 2005 under TW.

And they would be the people who didn't watch our last 12 games, would they?

That is an utterly sensational figure given we didn't play finals.

The Geisch was unleashed  :help

I just had a look - For 1998 we played Scum, Ess & Carl twice (all at the 'G), a total of 14 games at the 'G, 3 at Waverley, and another 5 scattered around Oz - and we missed out on the 8 due to %

The year before (1997) we played Scum, Ess & Carl a total of 4 times, we played Carl once at Princes Park  :shakehead, 12 games in total at the 'G, 1 at Waverley and another two games at Princes Park, and we finished 13th (though only 2 points from the 8 )

IIRC the game we played Carlton at Princes Park was Round 22, where we made that magnificent comeback and put them out of the finals.

That, on top of the previous wins after Walls was sacked (yes, only the second coach ever to be sacked by Richmond ), basically guaranteed Giesch the full-time coaching job - and winning the Reserves Premiership a few weeks later didn't hurt either.

The finish to the 1997 season gave all Richmond supporters a tremendous amount of optimism for the coming season, which was reflected in the attendances and membership numbers for 1998.

Hi Rosy,
Another factor that can be analysed is the percentage of membership against total and Average attendances. 2004 & 2005 is interesting considering CC said our poor performance on field contributed to our woeful off field performance. In relative terms 2004 should have yielded similar off field results to 2005. I'd be interested to compare these percentages with our Profit/(Loss) on a yearly basis.

Column A = Percentage of M'ship against total Attend
Column B = Percentage of M'ship against Average Attend

........

Overall attendances can mask our own financial performance:

Richmond Home attendances:
Year Total: Average: Avg % of Membership:
2004: 385,905 35,082 75.8
2005: 404,553 36,778 76.2

If a smaller percentage of Richmond members (potentially) attend our Home games, then that means there should be more cash coming in from the non-members at those games, and the club should be better off.

The club should have figures on exactly how many members attend each game, so they will know for sure while these figures are just "guesstimates" based on our overall membership tally.

All in all there doesn't seem to be a lot of difference between 2004 and 2005 in what should affect our bottom-line in this area.
