Rosy, its not often I agree with you, but Here Here.
Unfortunately this statement will hurt the rank and file, but as long as
the great mediocre one (Richo) is our key forward, we will be closer to the bottom 4,
than the top 4.
And with the worst backline in the Afl, headed by Gaspar, Bowden and Kellaway, it will be 4-5 years
until these hacks are long gone, that you will finally see some success.
And if you think that I talk crap.
I ask you one question.
Weve had all these guys in their prime, what can they possibly do differently now???

Diggler, I agree with you in relation to Richo. Unfortunately we will always struggle while Richo is our key forward.

I LOVE RICHO, BUT HE IS A PROBLEM NO BODY CAN FIX!

These are my reasons

1) Other forwards don't lead while Richo is roaming the forward line.

2) Our mids always kick it to him best option available or not.

3) Opposition sides well are aware of the above points and double and triple team him.

4) Richo always shanks the kick running too close to the man on the mark, again our oposition are well aware of this problem.

5) Brain freezes, Richo has plenty!

6) Demoralises the team when he gets up to his old tricks.

It's time to look to the future and play somebody else at full forward. Play Richo up the ground, HFF would suit him better.
Collingwood are well aware of how they're going to use Buckley this year (more forward than midfield) and we should do the same with Richo otherwise we are going to be way, way behind in developing experienced forwards.

As I said on another thread, as much as I love Richo, he is our achilles heel in our forward line. Cleve Hughes is the kid to be played at Full Forward his year and left there no matter what. Even if he only gets 4-5 kicks, we will get 4-5 goals as he is a great kick. He is after all our future FF

You may well be right. I believe Matthew Lloyd(cough, cough) made his senior debut in his first year of league footy and never looked back. I'm not so certain it's as important to hold the taller, stronger players at the reserve level as it is with the smaller framed youngsters. As we saw at the hawks with Franklin & Roughead last year, Cleve will probably play a fair bit of senior footy this year I think.

Three All - Australians... clearly the worst back line in the AFL. ::)

Spot on Gyps.  Throw in a couple more ::) ::) 's for me.

And to answer Diggler's question the thing to "do differently" would be to have better team mates to share the load.

No use blaming those who've carried our team for so long.  We just haven't had any depth and we've had too many mediocre players for far too long.

BTW, I am not totally knocking Richo- I just think that his kicking for goal really does hurt us, like in the NAB Cup game against the Dawks. If he had converted like Williams of the Dawks, we would have won easily.
Richo can still be a potent force, but roaming the wing/CHF area is where I would have him. Let Cleve do the finishing, with Brownie/Krak etc to feed off the contests or provide alternative targets. Cleve has shown an ability already to take the contested mark.

Like most ferals, you live in the past.
Gaspar and Kellaway were All Australian 6 seasons ago, a lifetime ago.
1 good season out of 10!
Now they are mediocre at best.
