RICHMOND SECONDS

Liked watching reserves with Dad before the game, but would love for it to be back at Punt Road. Used to be great, have a beer and a snag, talk rubbish and look at the kids, then join the yellow and black mob to walk over to section N4 to cheer on the Tigers :clap

It could be my minds artistic licence, but I remember a season where we had the 3 leading goal kickers in the 3 leagues. I used to enjoy getting down there early for the kick off of the Under 19's.

If memory serves me correctly, we had Roach in the firsts, Taylor in the seconds and Jacko in the Under 19s. Ah the glory days......

I think it was in 1980, but I thought it was Roach in the firsts, Jacko in the 2's (I don't think he ever played u19's for Richmond, he was over in WA playing for Mal Brown) and I believe a kid called Lane in the u19's.

There was an interesting comment about this at Club 80 from GM the other night. He stated that the push for the seconds comp is coming from Collingwood and Carlton who are both unhappy with their alliances.

The situation at Carlton obviously revolves around Pagan and Mitchell and their not so cordial relationship. The Scum/Williamstown alliance was held together by Greg Swann who I believe is still a board member at Willy. No doubt, Eddie "Boner" McGuire will be looking to extract some form of revenge on a deserter.

The more distractions the better.

GM also made the point that after several difficult years the RFC/Coburg alliance is finally working quite well and,a s noted by others, would be a less expensive option than a seconds team.

I would love to see the 2's back, however i understand that it is an expensive exercise!!

But is one of the reasons we overate some of our players because the VFL comp is not a high enough standard ??

We seemed to have alot of players who seem too good for VFL but not quite full time AFL players (eg. Kelvin Moore and Cam Howat)
Would an AFL Reserves comp be more or less of a standard of the current VFL? remembering not every AFL listed player is playing VFL seniors? (Heck, Browny can't get a game in the coburg seniors :hihi)
