Richmond's outstanding and underrated defence has been rewarded with being the Number 1 defence in the competition, based on Points Against.

Richmond has conceded a superby 531 points after 7 rounds, the next best is Brisbane on 582.

Also, this is just the 2nd time since 1967 that Richmond hasn't conceded 100 points in the first 7 rounds in the season. The other time was in 1995 when Richmond were undefeated during that period.

Richmond's attack hasn't been as strong, scoring 634 points, the 3rd lowest in the comp. However, this is understandable considering the rash of injuries that have seen the Tiger forward line severely depleted of its leading lights. While not impressive on pure figures, what has been impressive is the wide variety of goalkickers the side has used - we're the only side that doesn't have a goalkicker who has kicked 10 goals or more this season.

What has been crucial has been that someone has bobbed up when vital goals have needed to be kicked (Houlihan, Cameron, Rodan, Stafford, etc..).

Summation: the future is looking very good indeed.

Since the OP we've held the #1 position at

2003 R8
2004 R1
2017 R4, 5, 20

Rounds led

57 St.Kilda, Sydney
52 Fremantle
44 Geelong
43 Adelaide
30 Port Adelaide
21 West Coast
14 Collingwood
13 Western Bulldogs
7 Essendon
5 Richmond
3 Hawthorn
2 Brisbane
1 Carlton
0 Gold Coast, GWS, Melbourne, North Melbourne

Hawthorn is interesting.

Gee we really see the Roosy, Lyon influence with your list LTRTR.

The other fact that gets over looked is that we play more games at the MCG than those with comparble defensive stats.

The wide open expanse of the 'G' makes it harder to lock teams down. The Swans should be up there every year in this stat as they play on a toy ground. Port also play on a ground that hasn't the wide pockets and flanks of the G.

Massive stat for the Tigers

Yep, our back 6 has been amazing this year. Rance is the best in the business, Astbury and Grimes keep getting better and Floss rarely gets beaten - he reminds me of Merv Keane, cool and reliable. I like Bachar's run, but he can be a bit fumbly and Broad has been solid since coming in. Let's hope they keep going for the rest of the year - it makes us very hard to beat.

Houli hasn't quite settled again yet.

He's double guessing decisions which gets him into trouble, then he rushes a possession, usually to the feet of a team mate which puts them under the pump.

Should get better, but he needs to trust his first options

Yep I agree Frickenel. That is a great summary of Bachar's form at the moment.
