Richmond v Carlton Game Day Thread

Cotchin clearly cannot run out a game, he looks pedestrian and slow, Cousins ran straight past him today to receive a ball, he needs a rest and some time to get his fitness up.

Future gun, but needs time, only 18.

Thought Cotchin had his best game of the year today. Showed some really good signs today. His ability to get up from the ground with the ball is amazing. Also very good overhead for his signs. Nothing to worry about here we have a 100% A Grade onballer.

I agree 110%, I am just worried he will be injured, I watched him in the last quarter and he was walking around, couldn't run, just a fitness issue, due to his tendons I presume, lets rest him and keep him clean, give him a steady pre season and get excited next year. I want him to play on this year, just needs a rest.

Jade said earlier in the week he is about 4/10 for fitness. The only way for him to get fit is to play and train. Would prefer him running around for the RFC than Coburg.

Watching the game on channel 10, at the centre bounce with about 2 1/2 minutes left in the second quarter i noticed a richmond bloke empty nearly the entire contents of his stomach, did anyone else see this can they tell me who it was? Geez it was a fair dinkum spew, you'd think he'd been on the *smile* all day!!

Cousins.

Yep definitely Cousins. He emptied his stomach in spectacular fashion, then charged into the centre square as if nothing had happened - pure champion.

Indeed he is a champion. Hopefully if we get a skillful mid in the draft this year, Cousins can teach these classy units in Lids, Cotchin and a someone like a Trengrove the caper. Then finally we might have that class and skill around the ball bundled with the hard work and running which is something we haven't had for awhile, we either have had one or the other. Personally I think just picking up Cuz for the things he will teach these kids alone was worth it. That's before factoring what he himself actually does on the field himself. ;)

hmm 3 tall forwards 3 tall backs plus moore i wonder whos been asking for that sort of structure for yrs now.

for waht its worth i still believe we need a bigger mature body in the forward line to help post and riewoldt. vickery should go forward when one of jack or the mailman is resting on the bench otherwise tyrone can play ruck and sit on the bench.
3 genuine talls and a ruckman who go forward gives you options to very tall if you so desire. post is a lovely mover he will do his fair share of defensive work while in the forward line.
a pretty standard structural set up today for a lot of sides is 3 tall defenders 3 tall forwards 2 ruckmen. i say talls instead of kpps because most sides have at least one running tall who is capable of playing kp if need be.
Claw, would keep Richo for one more year as that mature body in the forward line to help Post and Riewoldt? Or are you thinking more along the lines of a Schulz?

claw currently believes we have to keep both. schulz is contracted so he stays we have no say in the matter. richo well sheesh as much as i would want to try for a draft pick for him we know that wont happen.
in keeping these two claw still believes we have other tall forwards who need to go this yr.so it would be prudent to hang onto a couple for next yr anyway.
schulz should imo be playing out of the square for the rest of the yr.or he should play chb. one thing for sure with him being contracted i think we need to play him. richo should be made to sit the season out for a few obvious reasons.

so yep richo and schulz are the big bodies forward, both will probably only have one more yr. with post and riewoldt both playing and rightly so only one of richo or schulz can play on any given game day.

pattison hughes polak richo and schulz should all be gone in the next two yrs so taking tall forwards is a bit of a priority.
its scary to think at the end of 2010 if we dont draft any kpfs we could well end up with just post and riewoldt on the list.

we need a big bodied quick of the mark sure kicking strong handed f.f. we need a 195 cm power forward we need two others as back up.

6 genuine tall forwards is the minimum imo, two of whom should be around the 195+ mark. it allows for good structure it allows for injury cover and it allows for long term development.
with just 6 you cant afford to carry any duds. you have to be sure those who are getting games are up to standard, and you have to be pretty sure those in development are going to step up to the standard.
because of this you know you are going to turn over more than this number to find the 6 who have the quality you want.the work to be done is enormous. we should not kid ourselves otherwise.

Agree with what you say Claw. Hopefully if all planets align, young Gourdis could be that quick big bodied full forward. IMO with every draft a kpp of some sort should always be taken. Not saying as our first pick, as this pick should always be about best available but at least during the course of the draft whether it be pick 26 or 66.

Really enjoyed seeing the emergence of the 3 headed monster, Post looked as if he could playing that hard leading CHF role Jack again showed good signs of been a very dangerous match up when he dosent get the oppositions best and Vickery looked comfortable deep

no con-incedence we played our best footy under wallace with the triangle in 05

where did it all go wrong? wheres the structure?

I was pretty impressed with the Tigers effort in this match and Post and Vickery particularly. For young talls I thought they acquitted themselves very well and Vickery has shown noticable improvement each game. There was actually a fowardline structure :o in the second half which would have won us the game if we could have kicked straight :P.

Some interesting stats for the game: defensively we had 72 tackles to their 81. Well OK, they won on that count but 72 must be some sort of club record!

Offensively we only lost the I50s 53 to 56 which is encouraging BUT we had more marks inside 50: 14 - 8 which is amazing with our wet-behind-the-ears forwards.

To me these are the vital KPIs the club needs to improve and they seem to be heading in the right direction - so be encouraged IMO.

An average effort today against an overated Carlton with a match winning forward and midfielder.

Our club is at a minimm 2-3 years away from elite fitness, tired legs & bodies under pressure resulted in a very underskilled performance.

The only thing missing when the ball was in our backine was the Benny Hill music.

You are definitely the glass half empty type, aren't you geoffreypettyboy.

For those that weren't able to watch the game, or would like to watch it again, it's on now on Fox.
