Richmond vs Geelong Gameday Thread

Most PREnders expected us to lose and yet when we lose there is much gnashing of teeth and sharpening of knives. I was impressed with the first half, the lads took it up to them but I could see by the last 5 minutes of the second quarter that they wouldn't be able to keep it up. The intimidating way that the Cats started in the third had a big effect on the Tiges AND on the umpires, umpy no.16 was nearly swooning around Mooney. Yep, I found the turnovers frustrating but it was last year's wooden spooners playing last year's premiers. Cut 'em some slack eh? I think the next few games are the real yardsticks. Lose these and there's major problems afoot.

Haven't read this post in its entirety, but has anyone mentioned that Wallace was clearly outcoached. Bomber re-shuffled his team around and Wallace had no answers.

TW as a coach is an enigma, he can construct a game plan that is talked about for years eg Dog v Essendon and Richmond v Adelaide, but seems totally incapable of changing match-ups or gameplan on the day.

Just rewatched the game and can't believe the hysteria about McMahon, he wasn't our worst. Wallace dropped the ball with this game with poor selections assuming Patto was fit, and the game plan wasn't adapted properly for the conditions yet we still won 3 quarters. The Cats turned it on for 1 quarter and won, we simply couldn't match it with them for that quarter.

Unfortunately it has nothing to do with Pick 19, it has to do with the fact he was a sh!te unaccountable soft footballer at the Bulldogs (ask any Bulldogs supporter their thoughts on this player) and we drafted him??? It would not matter if it was Pick 60, it is a dreadful decision to draft a footballer such as this. Please don't say every team has/needs one. He was exactly what Richmond did not need.

You pasted your response into your quotation from me, changing what I said. >:(

My point was in response to Tigerbob's previous comment that I quoted.

Agree he was out coached. I was crying out for lids to be given a shot in the Guts when we were getting smashed in there in the third quarter.

Dunno, I think that's a tad harsh when you look at the relative standards of the two lists. When Tezza looked at his whiteboard he probably knew that 70% of the likely matchups we could come up with would be losers.

Arguably he did well to keep us in the game until half time.

Yeah fair point, I agree

We do have different lists, the cats know they have class on every line, and have full confidence, in any tactical changes

With us there is alot of doubt on whether something is worth going for, against these guys

Yeah Wallet may have done better, but coaches are no different to players and can have bad days too, it is very easy to be an expert post event, when things are happening in the moment is where stuff could get missed, the info in the coaches box would be mind boggling at the time

Our loss was no disgrace, especially where we have come from, with last year's belting, I am hopeful of the positive signs which are now beginning to show

Not harsh at all. When we were getting smashed in the third quarter, Wallace was either too slow, didn't make the right changes, or made no changes at all. Not good enough terry.

I do think McMahon should have been dragged for his multiple turnovers. Having said that, the coaches probably have to submit a request to the interchange marshalls now. Holy frijoles, what a balls up the interchange thingy is now. Thanks Syderney...and Roos has the kahunas to whinge about it today!

Totally agree. Wallace must do better than this. As stated earlier, when Ling started to get on top of Foley and with Hyde being destroyed by Ablett, why not switch Foley onto Ablett and make Ablett think about his direct opponent.

Too slow to do anything. In terms of team selection, shows how badly we need a 200cm+ ruck option even in wet conditions. A ruckman that can get their hands on the ball. Simmonds is playing very well, but needs support, preferably with an aletrnate option. This could also release him to rest forward which would be a bonus with Richo periodically up the ground.

I agree.
For those that seem to think he's such a great game day coach, he often seems to let things play out when they clearly aren't working.
Changing poor matchups during the game isn't his strong suit.

Wallace cost us when he took Richo out of the game in the 3rd quarter. He left Richo in the forward line and by the time he went to move him the damage was done.

Richo should only move forward if he is gassed or if we are in front by a fair margin. He was BOG @ half time.

dunno if it cost us the game but totally agree with that HT.

the cats were serious from that bounce to start the 3rd qtr, it was all one-way traffic & big richo was stuck getting a chill in the forward 50.

Only reasoning not to have him floating around the back half at that stage of the game was if he struggling too much with his flu.

Good point Hazy Days.

Richo had the flu and Nathan Brown had a stomach virus and barely trained all week.

All midfielders get a rest these days so even the big fella needs one as well. Ran himself silly in the first half. Probably has greater TOG than any other midfielder running around.
