Richmond vs Melbourne Rd 18 Gameday Thread

Was it the 'team thing'? Passed it to a better angle IIRC. I was dissapointed that a player of Deledio's calibre did not have the confidence to nail it, however from a team thing perspective he adhered to the team rules.

yep was on the wing and there was a player calling out for it and lids as much as trying to do the team thing i myself thought he shouldve had a shot at goal, he learnt from that cause his next 2 marks he went for goals and nailed both of them....

[/quoteWhen you're 20 metres out on a slight angle and you're probably the best kick in the team (after Cousins), why pass it to a bloke that is the same distance out on a slightly better angle? Makes no sense to me, especially as Morton is not as good a kick as Deledio.

All it did was risk a turnover and created an opportunity for the opposition, which they took and scored a goal. Sometimes, a player has to back themselves, take responsibility and kick the goal for the team.

Goal kicking is a foot skill issue we have to address as per our other skill based issues.

From a structure point of you, we still need a ruckman to partner Vickery; we need another power forward to go with Post and Jack and we still need 2-3 quick midfielders will elite ball skills, especially by foot. With this in mind (and given 5-6 players already look gone), I can't see the point in continuing with Pattison, White and even Polo beyond this season. There really does need to be a cleanout of 8-10 players - it has to happen at some point.

Short Term

- Given the ball usage of McGuane (poor) and form/injury to Moore, I'd still like to have one last look at Jay Schulz playing as a CHB. Thursfield has looked better in recent weeks, but his challenge for 2010 is to increase his body/size strength and also improve his kicking skills. He's got to provide us with more dash and ball use out of the backline.

Today's game against Melbourne was poor and typical of what this list has displayed for some time. Lots of skill and physical work needed over summer.

Actually I think it was a lot worse than we typically are cause we allowed Melbourne to drag us down to their level.

Re your other points:
We have enough ruckmen to work with we need to continue rookieing them each year from now on.
Polo has shown a fair bit this year, if we're cleaning out around 10 then he's beyond that limit.
Agree about Schulz, if we have him for another year it has to be in the backline only. While Sylvestor hasn't played well, structurally we look a lot better with him at FB, so cut Sylvestor and use Schulz as that big bodied backman for another year while his contract runs out.
As for needs yes we need a strong marking fwd, a strong marking key back and fast, hard at it mids.

How has he been ruthless. Ok on the beginning he made a bit of a statement, but gradually he has let players like McMahon, Brown, King in the side. Why is he playing these players? - are wins more important than development?

Personally I think he is justifying the reasoning behind him letting some of these guys go come seasons end.

I was discussing this issue with a another PRE poster of why the hell Brown (and King and McMahon) is in the team, and the answer we agreed on is basically Couburg are out of players you can credibly pick for an AFL game, if Collins or Connors were moderately fit and/or in form they would get selected in a heartbeat in front of those guys.

FWIW I don't think Jade was told to tank but he was told to play the kids, which is what he's done. He's also gone above and beyond that by healing some of the physic damage Wallace left behind with his 'honesty' campaign.

Ok we're probably a both a bit disappointed that we didn't tank a bit harder but I think that has to come from above Jade.

Just watched again the McMahon shot at goal to win the game after he kicked the goal when all the players were jumping all over McMahon I noticed Cotchin Morton & Riewoldt all running from the bench to join the team!! Now is it just me but if the game was so tight wouldn't you want you 2 best forwards & most skilled midfielder on the ground?

What Jade is doing is rewarding players on performance not who they are if McMahon Brown or King play a shocker & Thomson Connors etc play well you would see changes the decision has been made on Bowden Simmonds etc but I think they want to see if Brown still has something to offer also I think he wants as much leg speed in the side as possible hence King & McMahon.
