PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

The problem is not the coach.
The problem is not our players.
It's not that our players don't try or lack courage.
It's not that our players all have poor skills. Go to training a few times and you'll see they are fine under non-gameday conditions.

Richmond's problem in the last two decades has been above the shoulders. It's always been mental.

Under pressure our players make poor decisions, drop marks and miss goals they have no problems with during training.
There is just something about Punt Road that gets into the head of players pulling on the yellow and black guernsey that affects their confidence and their real inner belief that they are good players.

I love Richo, he has been our most valuable player for many years.
Yet ironically Richo symbolizes what is wrong with Richmond. Watch how many goals he slots through on the run from >50 metres or from tight angles, yet put him 10 metres out directly in front and he is liable to kick out of bounds. Players dont do that because of poor skills, they do that from lack of true inner belief, from something not quite right in the mental department.

So what do we need at Tigerland?

A psychiatrist? ...

An exorcist? ......
