Excerpt from news report:

Richmond coach Damien Hardwick has backed Trent Cotchin to lead the Tigers into the finals without issue after the dual premiership captain and his family “stuck fat” in the hub.

Cotchin entertained the idea of leaving Queensland to return home to Victoria in the wake of heavy scrutiny on him and his wife Brooke in early August.

Richmond were fined by the AFL after Brooke attended a day spa, breaching the league’s COVID protocols

The emotional fallout - including social media abuse that rocked the couple - led to serious discussions about whether Cotchin would remain in the hub.

“There was a conversation at one stage,” Hardwick confirmed on Tuesday.

“Trent is a family man, (he) will always do what’s best for his family. We are very much a club that is aligned to those values.

“We won’t ask a person to put themselves above their family. You know, Trent had some decisions to make and he’s very supportive of his family as we are supportive of Trent.

“But the reality is you sort of look at the conditions we’re in. We are very fortunate to be in better conditions than most in Victoria but probably 90 per cent of the people up here at some stage have gone ‘look, it’s hard’.

“I probably would think about going home (in that situation). But the reality is Trent has stuck fat, his family has stuck fat, they’ve been incredible up here and we are incredibly supportive of both of them.”

Have watched this unfold with some interest. I think Cotch comes out of it very well as a supporter of his family and his club. Not so much his father in law who is not believable about his daughter not telling him she had been told to keep her mouth shut.
Who else might have told him if not his daughter.
Sorry business, but somewhat inevitable with demands put on families living in unfamiliar circumstances with unclear boundaries.

We couldnt no wrong the last couple of years, maybe Riewodlt jumping the fence to catch the train but this year we have absolutly killed it in off field incidents.
Time to pack it up and head home.
The media will feed off this till it tear's the club in half.

The biggest mistake made was leaving Neil Balme at home. Those in charge on the Gold Coast have not kept things at the standard that we as members/supporters should expect.

It's about setting standards. No one can ever stop free will and abject stupidity, especially among young men. However given Neil Balme's work history and what he's done for our club in particular, it's impossible to believe that the group up there wouldn't have benefited from his presence.

Self discipline seems to be in very short supply this year at Richmond. We will tumble down the ladder over the next few years if this continues.

Does this mean the portion of Brooke's fine that was suspended now has to be paid?
The club will be up for a large bill.
Send the muppets back to Melbourne.

Culture eats talent for breakfast. This is not part of our culture nor do we want it to be. Send them both home to face the music and whatever will become of their careers.

It's being reported that the fine will be +$100k and some points.
Is the loss of points in the mix?
