Ordinarily, Richo is one of the most intense and full on players we have at Richmond. But yesterday was a complete aberration for him.
Bubbletown and I were sitting right behind the goals at the Northern end yesterday, so for half of the game we were pretty close to our forward play. Bubbletown (and anyone else who went down to Geelong and was at that end of the ground yesterday and saw this) might back me up here when I say that Richo spent a heap of game time talking, joking and laughing around with Scarlett. You would have thought the two of them were best mates.
I was spewing. In Campbell’s last game, and against a side that has embarrassed us numerous times the last few years (including the first game of the year), I would have thought that one of our leaders like Richo would have been fully switched on. But he wasn’t. When the play was up the other end of the ground, he was walking around the forward line talking and laughing with Scarlett. This was no humorous sledging, but friendly chat. You could tell.
Again, you can’t question Richo’s application most of the time when he plays for us. But yesterday, it was like he was playing in a practice game. I’m sure if any of the coaching staff had of noticed it they would have got stuck into Richo. It probably speaks volumes about the general culture of Richmond and the lack of us v them aggression within the club.
Not good enough yesterday Richo. Not good enough.
