Richo as Captain? (Merged)

Do you think Richo should play his last couple of years out as Captain?

Chris New man and Matthew Richardson

Tonight i think proved that Johnson is not a captain that will take us to a premiership but i think that either chris Newman or Matthew Richardson would be great leaders as richo gives 100% every week and bleeds yellow and black and the same goes for newman who does all the hard things and tackles hard and is the type of person we need as a captain.

Re: Chris New man and Matthew Richardson

Richardson would be a good captain, but wont take us to a premiership.

Newman or J.Bowden for me. Those two in defence is just fantastic, but the more defenders we get over time, these two can play more in the centre and even forward.

Richo should have been made captain 10 years ago. Clearly the best footballer, most devoted, and best role model that have ever been at Richmond. Bowden as VC,

It would be unfair to burder Richo with the captaincy of a developing side...he has shown he can not focus on both his own as well as the general teams game. Let him play/enjoy his days as the great enigmatic entertaining forward that he is.....

no doubt whatsover Richo will captain the team next year...Sugar will announce his retirement after Round 20.

What Richmond needs as a captain is someone who can inspire the young team by his deeds, someone who goes off when they kick a goal, someone who is vocal, someone who has a media profile and someone who absolutely bleeds yellow and black. Richo is all of these and despite his failings the majority of the supporters love him. This season I believe he has already become the onfield leader that the youngsters look to, so he is naturally the best choice for captain.

Richo should be made captain.

He would have to do bugger all different to what he already does anyway.
He won't have to decide the batting order, who's going to bowl the last over, or when to declare. All he's got to do is play his own way and ... well, nothing has to change, on or off field.

His onfield temperament has mellowed, but do you know what? Next time someone tries to make him look stupid by kicking the ball "to him" over his head, he would be entitled to crack it. He's the captain , after all.

I see where people have there doubts about Richo's ability to be Captain , the Head dropping , the arms flailing after an errant pass etc , etc and would it take away his ability to concerntrate on his own game.

All reasonable questions.

Forget who's Captain I say , in our current situation I seriously doubt it's going to make a huge difference at this stage of the year. Give it to a Tivendale or Pettifer , one of the older blokes , who knows, it might just be the "Shock" they need to start performing at the level players of their experience should be.

I never thought I'd say this-BUT Richo would be the obvious candidate for captain for the next 2 years. He is our best player and has been for some years now. however in the past immaturity, hot headedness etc have marred his game. Credit to Wallace I believe---the Richo we see now has lost all that baggage which we use to put up with and found him outside the leadership group. Perhaps with the sun setting Richo has decided to enjoy himself more, perhaps maturity, perhaps the footy department and Wallace---he is a reborn leader!!!

Hey hold on this thread is far too logical - We all know that Richo is the man.

Time to think like our 'esteemed' power brokers at Punt Road. I say let's retain Captain Pansy - flower power rules.
