richo back for 2010

dont judge poor list management issues by a previous coach on what happend to us with wallace......
would mathews, sheedy, malthouse put up with it - dont think so

Malthouse seems to be putting up with an awful lot these days….

it seems the media was a bit too quick off the mark in announcing richo has been offered a new contract for next year.

richo himself said on the footy show last night that nothing has been offered and they will all sit down at the end of the year with the new coach and discuss if he plays on.

he said there will be no controversy at all, whatever is the best thing for the club is all that matters and if the new coach wants him to retire then he will.

i think he`ll be given one more year,i just hope he doesn`t end up getting injured again next year and finish his career breaking down at coburg, similar to what happened last weekend.

that`s why part of me wants him to retire this year, just announce it now to the footy world that round 21 or 22(whenever our last game for the year at the G is) will be richo`s farewell game and rest him until then and he can get a huge send off.

i don`t want him to finish up like gary ablett, breaking down in the 2`s.

Nah, let him play on if that's what he wants

Give it a break Tango. With our list and so many to go, if he was fit and wanted to play Richo would get a contract every year until 2012 before he made it to the top of the "has to go list "

Meh!

I suppose it's too hard too de-list 11 players from the list in a single season.

S'pose Richo can be thankful that there was a decent list in front of him.

well you can do it but only if you are prepared to take 11 newies and that is a big call.

That's right, it is a big call.

How many of those new 11 are going to have the talent, first off, without counting the unfolding of that talent.

If you take on a newie, if they make the commitment, you need to put in 2 to 3 years into them.
So where does that place us for the 2010?

Clearly, the 2010 will be very limited due to GC17.

My estimate:
9 to go this year.
6 to go next year.

Richo scrapes in this year because he's only 18 games from 300.
But the onus should be on him to get through those 18 games in 2010.

Richo should be awarded Life Player status by the RFC so whenever he feels like pulling his boots on, be it next year or in 10 years times, he automatically gets his name in the 22.

You just don't get it do you, you went all quiet last year when Richo was 2 votes off winning the brownlow and All Australian. He is still our best player by a mile and no keyboard tapping tough guy can put him down, he is Mr richmond and you should be ashamed of yourself.

If he did play 18 next year, I think we would have a pretty good year because it would mean the new coach woudl be pretty happy with Richo playing the new team plan

I always go quiet when things don't go my way. ;)

A bit like us throwing away an invaluable priority pick this year .......

Couldn't agree more.

hmm he played 22 in 07 and we got the spoon.

My 4yo son is into his superheroes at the moment...he tells me his favourites are Spiderman, Superman and Richoman.

I'm not about to tell him that one of his heroes is no longer. Long live Richoman...at least for one more year anyway.

Like everyone here this is a real hard one.....agree with both claw and phanto that Richo probably deserves to survive the cut as we have so many others to execute.

I have only one demand...and that is he plays a floating role and makes an occassional apearance forward allowing our KP kids to develop their own game.

That's the crunch!

He may get another season, but where do you play him?

its a no brainer we dont have a true ff. we have just 2 genuine kpfs that look to be up to standard both are more like chfs than ffs.

this coupled with what you think good structure should be and to me richo plays ff riwoldt and post rotating flank chf.the structure of most sides is 3 tall forwards with at least one of them being a power forward.

to me this set up would be ideal because it would enable us to throw post down back if we get into trouble. its called flexability.

if you want to go smaller rotate all three thru the bench.

part of the key to the conundrum is finding mids who have vision and kick the ball to the best option and to the forwards advantage. personally i would like another small genuine crumbing goal kicking rover of class someone like didak say or even better chapman.
